 Innuinaqtun fading?
One of Nunavut's few Innuinaqtun interpreter-translators, Kadlun-Jones said the call when she was in high school and teachers needed to send information home to unilingual parents.
Innuinaqtun is the dialect of Inuktitut spoken in the western Kitikmeot communities of Kugluktuk, Kingaok (Bathurst Inlet), Cambridge Bay and Umingmaktuuq (Bay Chimo).
She said Innuinaqtun courses are necessary to boost the number of fluent people and to generate interest in working with the dialect.

The government of Nunavut used a week-long Inuktitut terminology and language conference to roll out a new typeface, or font, designed to simplify translation.
About 50 Inuktitut and Innuinaqtun translators attended the conference, which was sponsored by the Department of Culture, Language, Elders and Youth.
Language commissioner Eva Aariak said the most important outcome from the conference is more agreed-upon Inuktitut equivalents for foreign words.

There are a couple of local dialects, one of which is Innuinaqtun, which is spoken here and in Kugluktuk (formerly known as Coppermine) and Cambridge Bay.
Last night, a couple of young girls here in town were trying to teach me some words - I'm not very good at it, but I did check the bit of Inuktitut I've picked up (all 10 words of it!) with them, and some words are the same, others aren't - about what I'd expected.
Innuinaqtun, unlike Inuktitut, commonly uses Roman letters, not syllabics.

While many of them learned American Sign Language in southern schools, deaf Inuit who don't know ASL tend to communicate with a combination of hand signals, body language and facial expressions that is being called Inuit Sign Language.
Jamie MacDougall, a specialist in language and perception, was brought in from Montreal to determine if the man could communicate in any known sign language.
The department responsible for official languages is putting together a proposal to include both Inuit Sign Language and American Sign Language in that bill.

My only beef is that the guy complaining isn't taking into consideration all of the other languages that are already serviced through the territories gov't, you got your Dogrib, Cree, Innuinaqtun...etc And there are other native language groups that aren't serviced but still wanna be...
Although English is the first language heard, you're more likley going to hear/read the native languages more often up there since they would be used by the majority of the populace.

A Yellowknife court has heard that francophones in the Northwest Territories are being denied their right to service in their own language.
I guess my only response is that the last time i checked, canada was an English-French billingual country and that all provinces had to offer both languages in its government buildings.
And that shouldn't mean that all government workers need to speak that language, it should mean that somebody at the government office can offer service in that language.
