Inside the Third Reich - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Inside the Third Reich is a memoir written by Albert Speer, the Nazi Minister of Armaments from 1942 to 1945.
It is considered to be one of the most in-depth descriptions of the workings and leaders of Nazi Germany, but is highly controversial because of Speer's lack of discussion of Nazi atrocities and his involvement with them.
While arguments over Speer's guilt are ongoing, Inside the Third Reich is used by historians on both sides as a primary source on the inner workings of the Nazis.

His concern is not upholding allegiance to either the former Reich nor its conquerors, but at its essence, is a pragmatic re-valuation of the means by which society achieves power and holds it.
Speer was dismayed at the grand palaces requested by Third Reich leaders, and the sordid lives they conducted out of sight, such as the dramatic betrayal of Magda Goebbels and her husband's sniveling, revengeful manipulation of others.
In addition to their massive personal expenditures, Speer notes, the Third Reich's second tier of leaders were often more interested in fighting each other for political power than achieving results.
