Insomniac (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Insomniac is Green Day's fourth album and it was released in 1995 on the Reprise Records record label.
Insomniac has sold 1.9 million units in the US as of June 2005.
On the front cover of Insomniac there are subliminal images of a naked woman, 3 fairies, a skull, and several other ghostly faces in the flames.

 Insomniac Review | Green Day | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com
Of all Green Day's albums, this one has to be their most hard core punk to date.
I love everything about this album the only thing I hate is that the album is only about a half an hour.
Like I said, it is my favorite album of all time, and without the intense guitar, bitchy vocals (not intended as an insult, heh heh), and backhanded, acidic lyrics, Insomniac wouldn't exist.

Wikipedia:Naming conventions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Convention: In titles of songs or albums, unless it is unique, the standard rule in the English language is to capitalize words that are the first word in the title and those that are not conjunctions (and, but, or, nor, for), prepositions (in, to, over, through), or articles (an, a, the).
When necessary, disambiguation should be done using (band), (album), or (song) (such as Anthrax (band) or Insomniac (album)); use further disambiguation only when needed (for example X (U.S. band), X (Australian band)).
Disambiguate albums by artist and not by year unless multiple self-titled albums are released.

In 1995, it was confirmed that they had sold over 10 million albums worldwide, a stunning achievement for a band who have remained faithful to a basic punk pop framework.
Insomniac and Nimrod confirmed their popularity, with the band's fans seemingly unfazed by the weakness of the songs compared to the material on Dookie.
Their fourth major label release, October 2000"s Warning, was a hugely enjoyable power pop album that, contrary to the band's defiant claims, owed little to their punk roots.

Insomniac is a fun album, probbly for diehard fans for myself only.
The next to last 3 songs on that album were pure fillers and no difference here except the next to last two are pure fillers.
Even though this is probably their angriest and quickest album, they are still nowhere near punk.

I always find this album to be really easy to listen to, and has that spark of aggression that none of the other albums have.
The lyrics are very good (but all the albums have very good lyrics), with some very nice bass licks, that stand Green Day apart from their roots (such as the Ramones, who just had bass lines that were exactly the same as the guitar riff).
Brain stew opens with a great riff (that is repeated on "Hitchin' a ride" off of 'Nimrod') that is hardly punky at all and seems almost metal-like, which is accentuated when the thumping drums and bass kick in and determine the overlying tempo for the entire song.

Green Day : Insomniac - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Throughout Insomniac, there are vague references to the band's startling multi-platinum breakthrough, but the album is hardly a stark confessional on the level of Nirvana's In Utero.
While nothing on the album is as immediate as "Basket Case" or "Longview," the band has gained a powerful sonic punch, which goes straight for the gut but sacrifices the raw edge they so desperately want to keep and makes the record slightly tame.
Billie Joe hasn't lost much of his talent for simple, tuneful hooks, but after a series of songs that all sound pretty much the same, it becomes clear that he needs to push himself a little bit more if Green Day ever want to be something more than a good punk-pop band.

It is no wonder that the anticipated release of Insomniac had radio stations and high schoolers eagerly waiting to find our if the album would live up to the high expectations set by Dookie.
The layout is patterned somewhat after their last album (not coincidentally), but the band does some experimentations breaking from their usual fast-paced, four-chord form.
The final remaining tracks are perhaps the weakest on the album, though, as they make no attempt to extrapolate on their simple successes or explore new territory.
