Instability - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Instability in systems is generally characterized by some of the outputs or internal states growing without bounds.
Fluid instabilities occur in liquids, gases and plasmas, and are often characterised by the shape that form; they are studied in fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics.

Rayleigh-Taylor instability - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rayleigh-Taylor instability, or RT instability, or, less commonly, the Richtmyer-Meshkov instability, occurs any time a dense, heavy fluid is being accelerated by light fluid.
Note that the RT instability is not to be confused with the Rayleigh instability of a liquid jet.
This latter instability, sometime called the hosepipe (or firehose) instability, occurs due to surface tension, which acts to break a cylindrical jet into a stream of droplets having the same volume but higher surface area.

The primary indication for surgery for posterior glenohumeral instability is recurrent symptomatic shoulder subluxation or dislocation that is recalcitrant to conservative measures.
The instability, however, is usually not eliminated, but the functional disability during athletics is improved, allowing the patient to participate in his or her sport without problems.

They include a desire of the patient to avoid recurrent problems with instability, (including the necessity of reporting to the emergency room on a frequent basis to have the shoulder reduced), problems with recurrent pain, or an inability to perform certain activities because of a fear of further shoulder instability.
In patients whose instability is primarily anterior, the shoulder is approached from the front and those whose primary component of instability is posterior, the shoulder is approached from the back.
While anterior instability is by far the most common type of problem, posterior and multidirectional instabilities of the glenohumeral joint are also important causes of shoulder disability.

 Chronic instability of the shoulder
Their significance in the production of chronic instability is difficult to assess, since the movement of the humeral head forward of the glenoid rim during repeated episodes of instability must progressively change and aggravate the lesional pattern.
On the one hand, there is instability with laxity brought on by trauma and made progressively worse by recurrent episodes of instability, and instability with laxity resulting secondarily from gradual stretching of the capsule (overuse); on the other hand, there is instability in the context of congenital excessive laxity.
Instability may take the form of recurrent dislocation (in which case, reduction may be performed by the patient himself or herself, or may require the assistance of a third party).

 Medcyclopaedia - Instability
Instability of the distal radioulnar joint may be very difficult to detect by routine radiography, as slight variations in wrist position alter the relationship of the radius and ulna.
Carpal instability may be lateral (which usually occurs between the scaphoid and the lunate bones); medial (which occurs between the triquetrum and the lunate or between the triquetrum and the hamate bones); or proximal (which occurs when the abnormal carpal alignment results from an injury of the radius or from massive radiocarpal disruption).
Although congenital instability may occur, the leading cause of subluxations and dislocations of the glenohumeral joint is direct or indirect trauma.

Fluid Instability   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
This instability is characterized by waves that appear between two superimposed fluids of differing densities and velocities.
A familiar example are the ripples that form when wind flows over a pool of water. The first example demonstrates the Kelvin instability wherein two stably stratified fluids are flowing from left to right with the uppermost low density fluid travelling 3.5 times faster than the lower heavy fluid.
Another example of the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability are waves that grow on jets of high or low density fluid, such as the hot bouyant jet of gas shown in the second example.

As the name implies, it was a period of disunity, when several different states were warring with each other to determine who would gain control of all of China and found a new dynasty.
The central question for most philosophers of the time was how to respond to this time of instability and achieve a greater measure of order and safety.
For the Confucian philosophers, the answer was found in a revival of the ways of the past, and for Xunzi in particular, the most important aspect of that was the ritual system.
