The present invention also relates to an instant printer that is compact and portable, or is able to be incorporated into a camera, and an instant film for use with the instant printer.
Because the printing device built in the camera scans the instant film with the printing head in a line sequential fashion while reading out the image data line by line from the memory device, the mechanical construction as well as the electrical construction of the printing device can be simple.
By providing an instant film with a track for detecting advancing speed of the instant film, it is easy to detect the film advancing speed, and control the light emission timing in accordance with the film advancing speed.

Instant film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Instant film is available in 24mm x 36mm size (similar to 135 film) up to 8" x 10" size, with the most popular film sizes for consumer snapshots being approximately 3¼" x 4¼" (the image itself is smaller as there is a border surrounding the image).
Instant film is frequently used in situations where it is necessary to validate soon after taking a photograph that the resulting image was suitable, such as in documenting evidence in law enforcement, in health care and scientific applications, and producing photographs for personal identification, such as for use in passports.
Instant film is also used by artists to achieve effects that would be more difficult to accomplish with traditional photography, by manipulating the emulsion during the developing process, or separating the image emulsion from the film base.

Photographic process of producing photographic prints upon instant print film - Patent 4413050
Because instant print films are characterized by the fact that they are developed insitu, the chemicals involved in the process are a part of the total film package and special equipment is provided in either the camera or the package to release the chemicals after the film has been exposed.
When using "instant" film that has a film holder requirement, it is necessary to place the loaded film holder, with the dark slide in place on the enlarging easel parallel to the transparency.
Unless the instant print film is at a proper temperature to develop the tonal quality and color saturation to a maximum, the print quality of a print made by the process of the invention will not be optimal, very good, or sufficient to meet the objectives of this invention.

Polaroid Instant Integral Film   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Instant integral film was an outgrowth of the original Polaroid peel-apart instant film.
In 1986, the 600-series film was changed to make an image of 73 by 92 mm and the formulation was improved to last longer and make more realistic colors, and Spectra film was born.
Because Polaroid integral film cameras are not built with the ability to adjust the meter to different film speeds, this means that the cameras made to take 600 film cannot easily accept Time-Zero film and vice-versa.

 Howstuffworks "How Instant Film Works"
Instant camera film is pretty much the same thing as regular camera film, with a few extra elements.
The camera briefly exposes the film to the light coming from a scene (typically for a small fraction of a second), and where the light hits the film, it starts off a chemical reaction.
In color film, the top layer is sensitive to blue light, the next layer is sensitive to green and the bottom layer is sensitive to red.

In recent months, Broderick's site has helped to coordinate various film screenings and served as a resource for those who "want to use film to bring people together and have an impact."
