Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Physique de Grenoble (ENSPG), founded in 1985: trains engineers in physical sciences, nanotechnologies, materials science, electronic and optoelectronic devices, energy and nuclear engineering and physical instrumentation.
Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Informatique et de Mathématiques Appliquées de Grenoble (ENSIMAG), founded in 1960: trains engineers to master the design and use of computer and mathematical tools: VLSI and computer design, software engineering, telecommunications and networks, distributed applications and systems, image processing and synthesis, economic and financial systems modeling, scientific computation.
The first of its type in France, INPG became polytechnical and grew continuously in scale, becoming the National Polytechnical Institute in 1971 with Louis Néel, Nobel Laureate in Physics as its first President.

Received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1992, and is presently a Professor of electrical engineering at the University of California, San Diego where he teaches and conducts research in the field of mixed-signal integrated circuits and systems for communications.
He is Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique FÈdÈrale Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, lecturer at the University of Neuch’tel, Switzerland and in the ALaRI Master at the University of Lugano, Switzerland, as well as for many postgraduates courses in low-power design.
Mike received the BA and MA degrees from Queens' College, Cambridge Univ., and MS and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford Univ. In 1989, he was named a U.S. National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator.

 Louis Néel - Biography
From 1954 until 1970 he was Director of the Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble and of the Ecole Française de Papeterie; in 1970 he was appointed President of the Institut National Polytechnique in Grenoble.
After the Armistice of 1940, he went to Grenoble and established the Laboratoire d'Electrostatique et de Physique du Métal, which in 1946 became one of the external laboratories of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique.
He served as director of the Centre d'Etudes nucléaires de Grenoble from 1956 to 1970.

Claude Puech, Professor at the Joseph-Fourier University in Grenoble, Director of the Gravir-Imag department and head of project iMAGIS*, INRIA Rhne-Alpes was appointed as Scientific Director of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department of the Division for Research of the Ministry of National Education, Research and Technology, in replacement of Pierre-Louis Curien.
