For the thirty-eighth consecutive year, the Department of Modern Languages of the University of Northern Iowa is planning its program in France for Teachers of French: A five-week session in Angers from June 22 to July 25, 2005 for six hours of graduate credit.
The most important aim of the Institute is to try to increase each individual's skills as much as possible in a congenial French atmosphere and to help the participants assemble first-hand information about France and its people.
They left France with a warm feeling for the French people and their hospitality, and with a real sense of accomplishment in their ability to understand and speak French.

Francesco di Castri returned to UNESCO in 1990, when he was invited by the Director-General to be the founding Coordinator of the Bureau for Environmental Programmes, responsible for taking in hand the Organization's contributions to the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio and its immediate follow-up.
During his career, Francesco di Castri was gainfully employed in three main ways: as a university professor in Chile, as a promotor of international scientific cooperation within a United Nations institution based in Paris, and as a director of a national research institute in France.

Results from the study -- the largest randomized controlled trial ever conducted in advanced renal cell cancer -- were presented in an oral session during the 41st annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) meeting in Orlando, FL.
Dr. Bernard Escudier, Head of Immunotherapy and Innovative Therapy Unit at the Gustave-Roussy Institute, Paris, France, and co-principal investigator of the study, reported that disease progression was significantly delayed in those patients who received sorafenib.
As assessed by independent radiologic review, a measure of disease progression called progression-free survival (PFS) was doubled to a median value of 24 weeks (167 days) in patients receiving sorafenib as compared to 12 weeks (84 days) for patients receiving placebo (p-value< 0.000001).
