Tallaght (Tamhlacht in Irish) is a large suburban area in the administrative county of South Dublin, Ireland situated to the south west of Dublin city.
Tallaght was a leading monastic settlement in Celtic times, centred around the monastery founded by Saint Mael Ruain some time before his death in AD The monastery became famous for a number of reasons: The Stowe Missal was written here in about AD 800, and religious scholars came from far afield to study in Tallaght.
The Institute of Technology, Tallaght is a large Regional Technical College located between the Sqaure and Tallaght village.

Institute of Technology Blanchardstown is Ireland's newest Institute and 2002 was only their second year to enter the competition.
Hugh Carolan from Kells in Co Meath and attending Waterford Institute of Technology took 2nd prize with a prize of €750.
The competition is run in partnership with the Department of Education and Science, the technology education sector and Intel Ireland.

William Rafferty representing Institute of Technology Tallaght won the 2001 Intel Excellence in Electronics competition with a prize of £1000.
A total of 9 Institutes of Technology from around the country participated in the competition; Blanchardstown, Letterkenny, Galway/Mayo, Sligo, Tralee, Waterford, Dundalk, Tallaght and Athlone.
Each Institute of Technology held local competitions in February and the winner from each competition went on to the finals held in Blanchardstown Institute of Technology.

These institutions have established an ad-hoc association to negotiate joint terms for the purchase of Information Technology (IT) hardware on their behalf and have delegated one of their number, the Dublin Institute of Technology, to manage the contract award process.
In granting a certificate to the Institutes of Technology in the previous case, the Authority noted that the project was of a limited duration and that its size was restricted by the funding available, to approximately 0.3% of the total Irish market of IR£700m for hardware, software and services in 1997.

 Hanafin provides €12.5million to Institutes of Technology
The Minister for Education and Science Mary Hanafin T.D., today announced the re-introduction of a devolved grant scheme for minor capital works in Institutes of Technology as a result of her recent decision to end the freeze on spending on capital projects in the higher education sector.
The re-introduction of the devolved capital works grant scheme for the Institutes of Technology accords with the recommendations of the Kelly Report that the third level sector at an institutional level should be provided with funding for minor capital works.
I have already indicated that the Government is committed to supporting the national strategic interest by investing in the third level sector as a key driver of economic and social progress.
