		Though publicly Intelligent Design advocates state that their focus is on detecting evidence of design in nature without regard to who or what the designer might be, in statements to their constituents and supporters, nearly all state explicitly that they believe the designer to be the Christian God.
		Intelligent Design is presented as an alternative to purely naturalistic forms of the theory of evolution.
		For example, the notion of an "intelligent designer" is compatible with the materialistic hypotheses that life on Earth was introduced by an alien species (as taught by the Raëlian movement), or that it emerged as a result of panspermia, but would not be with the designer(s) of the "fine-tuned" universe.

		Since design logically necessitates an intelligent designer, the appearance of design is cited as evidence for a Designer.

		Although "intelligent design" advocates often claim that they are only arguing for the existence of a "designer", who may or may not be God, all the leading advocates do believe that the designer is God, and frequently accompany their allegedly scientific arguments with discussion of religious issues, especially when addressing religious audiences.
		A major distinguishing feature of "intelligent design" is the attempt to shift the focus of the debate away from the details of Earth history and towards more abstract concepts such as "design" or "teleology", terms which are rarely used in a non-question-begging manner.
		Intelligent Design advocates frequently make vague appeals to "information" in support of their arguments, claiming that the information in living organisms cannot be generated except by intelligent design.

	Intelligent Design

		A testable model and coherent theory are needed to solidify IDT in science (and the IDT is a scientific theory, unlike many origin theories).
		Detecting design is not some highly complex or miraculous process, it is a simple and very common process inherent to the human race.
		IDT is a valid path in science that can stand independent of religion and philosophy (whether that belief system is Christianity or naturalism).

		Henderson's letter, it is clear that the FSM theory has evidence comparable in weight to ID. As a scientist and professor, it is often difficult to present differing opinions in an unbiased way.
