Interlagos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Interlagos is a quarter in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.
Its name comes from the fact that the region is located between two large artificial lakes, Guarapiranga and Billings, built in the early 20th century to supply water and electric power to the city.
The Interlagos quarter is located in the south region of São Paulo City to the right edge of the Guarapiranga artificial lake.

Autódromo José Carlos Pace - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The new track still has a very long top-speed section that sends shivers to the spines of less experienced drivers, because of the bumps, the high-speed turns and the lack of escape (though the track is very wide at this point).
Another reason why most pilots consider Interlagos interesting is that it was not built on plain terrain, but adapting itself to ups and downs of a hilly ground, which makes it harder to drive and demands more power from the car's engines.
Facilities, organisation and general safety at Interlagos and its surroundings are often criticised.

Interlagos hosted the Brazilian GP from the first non-Championship race in 1972 to 1980, with the exception of 1978 when Rio de Janeiro held the race.
In 1980, the first corner, Curva 1, which was one of the great bends on the Formula One calendar, was tightened and then the Brazilian GP went to Rio de Janeiro until 1989.
The race returned to Interlagos in 1990 with a new layout which retained the old section on both sides of the start/finish line.

The city expanded at a terrifying rate and soon the Interlagos racing circuit was engulfed by shanty towns.
Fittipaldi did the same thing in 1974, setting himself for a second World title by the end of the year, but when he returned to Interlagos in 1975 he had to make way for another local, Carlos Pace, who wrote his name indelibly into the Brazilian history books with his first F1 victory.
When he signed for Ferrari for the 2000 season there was widespread hope that it would make a new era for the history of Interlagos.

Interlagos is a great track, one which I really enjoy driving so I’m hoping to have a good weekend.
Dominated by slow to medium corners and straight lines, it is important to have a good car balance in the corners that precede the straights.

Of those, four were winners: Carlos Pace (who won his home Grand Prix in 1975 and after whom the Interlagos circuit is now named), Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna.
All except Pace, who died in an air crash in 1977, were multiple World Champions and all of them won their home Grand Prix twice at some stage in their careers.

Suzuka was my first grand prix for Panasonic Toyota Racing and with any debut comes the added pressure of having to learn new things, most notably getting to grips with a new car in race conditions.
That gives me a good feeling about this weekend's race, although we have to wait and see how the TF104B performs as Interlagos is a bumpy track and we've struggled over bumps so far this year.
We expect Interlagos to be dirty on the first day, which makes tyre choice difficult for the whole team, so my input's definitely going to be important.

 Reflections on Interlagos
Firstly, the Saturday qualifying session was reduced to a total farce, with various bits of overhead advertising hoarding falling onto the track, causing the session to be red flagged on three occasions.
Then came the statement from Grand Prix promoter Tamas Rohonyi, alleging that the hoardings had been sabotaged, and a picture of the type of race weekend on offer at Interlagos emerges.
The 'resurfaced' track proved to be so bumpy, especially on the pit straight, that at least three teams suffered from rear wing failures during the course of the three-day event.
