In the Catholic Church exorcists must be priests and they have to be given a sort of 'licence' to perform the special rites by their local bishop.
While exorcists were busy trying to expel Satan from possessed Italians, Father Amorth implied that many in the country were unwittingly inviting the Devil into their lives through involvement in the occult.
Exorcists say that contact with the occult is one of the ways the Devil can gain access to a person's mind, sometimes exploiting the situation to 'possess' that individual.

Exorcists: The International Association of Exorcists (IAE) was found in 1993 by Father Amorth.
The exorcists found that not every spirit was an evil entity per definition, and figured that helping the spirit prooved a much better solution then driving it away or even allied themselves with the spirit in persuit of a common goal.
Exorcists don’t run around with tomes of ancient occult lore on demons, ghosts and other critters, they have the bible, their faith and the vast resources of the Vatican to aid them.

 exorcism
A priest for 50 years, he is the undisputed leader of the city's six exorcists (appointed by the cardinal to whom the Pope delegates the office of Vicar of Rome) and honorary president-for-life of the International Association of Exorcists.
Although the post of exorcist is an official diocesan appointment (there are about 300 attached to the various bishops throughout Italy) and Father Amorth is undisputably the best known in his field, there is some tension between Amorth and the modernising tendencies in the Church hierarchy.
When an exorcist administers an exorcism, the efficacy is greater still, because he is practicing a sacramental, which is a public prayer, invoking the intercessory power of the entire Church.

The resurgence was evident at a weeklong mid-July conference in Rome of the International Association of Exorcists, a group Amorth cofounded in 1993.
The first meeting of exorcists in 1990, he said, was composed almost entirely of traditional exorcists wary of lay collaboration.
Despite the conceptual gulf that sometimes separates exorcists from other constituencies in the church, there is at least one point of common ground: occasional frustration with bishops perceived as unsupportive.

Father Amorth, who has become the world's most famous exorcist by writing about the practice and the devil's influence, spoke to L'Espresso about a scandal that has emerged in Italy recently, with the discovery of the bodies of two adolescents who were apparently tortured and killed some time ago.
Father Amorth said that the revised ritual is "a disaster for us exorcists." The new ritual, he continued, prevents the priest from proceeding with an exorcism "unless he is certain about the condition of a diabolical possession, which is something that you can only ascertain in the process" of an exorcism.
The exorcist offered a chilling reminder: "While it is easy to enter into these Satanic cults, it is extremely difficult to get out." He warned that those who enter the cults are quite literally risking their lives.
