International Bolshevik Tendency - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The International Bolshevik Tendency is a Trotskyist international organisation.
The IBT group in Germany was also drawn from members of the iSt who had formed the Group IV Internationale (GIVI) before joining the newly formed IBT as the Spartacus Group.
The IBT section in New Zealand, the Permanent Revolution Group (PRG), was founded by former Spartacist leader Bill Logan, expelled by the Spartacist League in 1979 for "gross moral turpitude".

The International Bolshevik Tendency is a (Radicals who support Trotsky's theory that socialism must be established throughout the world by continuing revolution) Trotskyist international organisation.
It was formed by former members of the (additional info and facts about International Spartacist Tendency) International Spartacist Tendency (iSt) in the USA and Canada, but many of its current members are not former Spartacists.
Politically it claims to continue the Spartacist tradition which it is argued degenerated in the late (The decade from 1970 to 1979) 1970s.

It should have been clear, that when we wrote "In effect the IBT militarily defends the Ba'athist regime while affording ‘no political support to Saddam Hussein' - but what the hell does that mean?", that the question was posed rhetorically.
The small nations, the ruling class of which are the accomplices of their partners in the big states, constitute only the pawns on the imperial chessboard of the great powers, and are used by them, just like their own working masses, in wartime, as instruments to be sacrificed to capitalist interests after the war.
The larger point is whether an understanding of the world economy, and a revolutionary attitude to it, is determined by an analysis of the whole or merely by the sum of the parts.

 Weekly Worker 297 Thursday July 15 1999
An 'international' that does not have a mass base in the advanced elements of the proletariat is not really an international at all - its claim to be the reborn workers' international is a pretence.
The IBT's use of personal attacks to fend off political criticism reaches a new low when they attempt to use the incident that took place on the Bloody Sunday march in January 1999 as a means to dismiss my criticisms.
The IBT's statement about defending the Spartacists "or any other leftist" are belied by the fact that "any other leftist" would not falsely accuse someone of being a supporter of the Royal Ulster Constabulary on a march organised by the Irish republican movement.

Who are the International Bolshevik Tendency?
The International Bolshevik Tendency (IBT) is a revolutionary socialist organization founded by former cadres of the international Spartacist tendency (today the International Communist League).
The cadres of the Fourth International outside of North America were largely annihilated or dispersed in the course of the Second World War.
The "international Spartacist tendency" today is in no important sense politically superior to any of the dozen or more fake-Trotskyist "internationals" which lay claim to the mantle of the Fourth International.

The IBT section in New Zealand, the Permanent Revolution Group (PRG), was founded by former Spartacist leader Bill Logan.
It is no coincidence that most of the founding cadre of the IBT were pushed out of the iSt in those years.
It is also true that the iSt did abandon much of its trade union work at the same time.

The Militant Tendency was a Trotskyist political faction within the Labour Party (UK) in the United Kingdom, practicing entryism tactics.
The newspaper The Militant was founded in 1964 with Peter Taaffe as editor, when the majority of the group broke from the International Secretariat of the Fourth International with the minority forming the International Group, which was to develop into the International Marxist Group.

 INTRODUCTION
As part of the process of dealing politically with the anti-Marxist sectarian psuedo-'orthodoxy' of the 'tradition' of the 1970s Spartacists, 'embodied' in the IBT, this pamphlet is therefore devoted to the publication of internal documents relevant to the political dispute that led to the founding of this journal.
In my resignation letter from the IBT, published in the same issue, I accused the IBT leadership of "appealing to comrades not to debate with me on this question until a future pre-conference discussion period," that is, for at least 18 months.
The IBT try to prove too much, and by the contradictions in their account expose their leadership as, to be charitable, dishonest bureaucratic manoeuvrers.

Band of Political Imposters and Swindlers in Ukraine
Contacted in mid-August by the IBT who furnished photos of members of the “YRM,” we were able to identify at least six members of the Revolutsionnaya Kommunisticheskaya Organisatsiya (RKO – Revolutionary Communist Organization), which had fused with the LFI in August 2001.
Given the unambiguous nature of the accumulated evidence, the executive committee of the League for the Fourth International states that the fusion with the Ukrainian “RKO” is null and void.
Yet the tendencies affected were quite diverse, ranging from the Trotskyist LFI to various pseudo-Trotskyist outfits (CWI, IBT, L5I), the neo-Shachtmanite LRP/COFI, the social-democratic SPGB as well as latter-day De Leonists and Bordiguists.

The IBT’s insistence that only Robertson’s position is acceptable, and that any other position is fundamentally ‘class treason’, means in my opinion that were Trotsky and the bulk of the cadre of the classical FI alive today, they would be regarded as opportunist betrayers by the IBT.
The refusal of the IBT to consider involvement in any wider initiative to pose class politics on an electoral level at the moment, in favour instead of building a basically sterile ‘propaganda group’ is I believe a manifestation of the same sectarian method.
I must confess to being disquieted that the international leadership of the organisation is now effectively the leadership of the PRG, or people trained in its organisational conceptions (whatever my disagreements with Jim C, I do not believe he would have supported the current IS’s edict recommending non-discussion of my document).

The second IBT criticism is that critical support for Labour under MMP is not permissible because Labour (assuming it were a bourgeois workers party) must enter a popular front with bourgeois parties like the Greens or NZ First.
The IBT correctly opposes popular fronts because bourgeois workers parties can shift the blame for failing to implement a workers’ program onto their bourgeois partners and thus still suppress the class contradiction.
The IBT criticizes the Anti-Capitalist Alliance failure to offer transitional demands or means of moving from the most basic democratic or immediate demands to the seizure of power and a socialist republic.

The other, from the rival International Bolshevik Tendency, realized he recognized the Ukrainians: They were part of his party’s revolutionary network.
The two groups compared notes, the story spread, and it soon became clear that a small group of con men had been bilking at least half a dozen Leninist sects based in Britain and the United States, pretending under different names to be each organization’s comrades in Kiev.
According to another, they were actually loyal to one of the would-be vanguards, the Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI), but had decided to make some money off their intimate knowledge of socialist sectarianism, posing as members of rival parties in order to raise money for their own.

Most of these "internationals" have limited contact with other forces that are outside their narrow "international", so their synthesis at their international conferences is far from balanced and rounded.
The Bolsheviks were able to carry through the October 1917 revolution, but they did not expect to be alone—they thought the revolution would continue in the rest of Europe, and the isolation of the weakened, invaded, Soviet state would be broken.
The conceptions of internationalism of the multiple "internationals" splitting off from the Trotskyist tradition are all influenced by the particular circumstances of the Stalinist degeneration of the CPSU and the heroic efforts by Leon Trotsky to counter it.

A Summary Description of the Papers of the Spartacist League
Spartacist League: originally formed as the "Revolutionary Tendency" of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), the Spartacist League was formed in 1964 when they were expelled from the SWP for not supporting the Cuban revolution, as well as opposing the SWP's part in the "revisionist" United Secretariat of the Fourth International (USFI).
The SL's international wing, the International Spartacist Tendency (now known as the International Communist League), was formed in 1974.
The Spartacist League suffered two large splits: the first being the formation of the International Bolshevik Tendency in 1985 and in 1996 a group formed by the expelled SL newspaper editor, Jan Norden (known as the Internationalist Group).

You say in your letter of May 30 that the International Bolshevik Tendency stands for the rights of all immigrants, including "the right of immigrants to enter the imperialist countries." You provide us with evidence from your British and German publications, which we were unaware of before receiving your letter.
We acknowledge that, in the literature of the IBT, you have defended the rights of immigrants in relation to the imperialist countries in more sweeping terms than has the Spartacist League.
This ought to lead the IBT to re-examine the SL's position on immigration more carefully, and therefor look at its own methodology on the question more deeply.
