Summary of the "International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution From Ships, 1973" is available from the UNEP Register of International Treaties and Other Agreements in the Field of the Environment.
Parties to the Convention shall co-operate in the detection of violations and the enforcement of the provisions of the present Convention, using all appropriate and practicable measures of detection and environmental monitoring, adequate procedures for reporting and accumulation of evidence.
As soon as the present Convention enters into force, the text shall be transmitted by the Secretary-General of the Organization to the Secretary-General of the United Nations for registration and publication, in accordance with Article 102 of the Charter of the United Nations.

Where export or re-export is to, or import is from, a State not a Party to the present Convention, comparable documentation issued by the competent authorities in that State which substantially conforms with the requirements of the present Convention for permits and certificates may be accepted in lieu thereof by any Party.
The original of the present Convention, in the Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish languages, each version being equally authentic, shall be deposited with the Depositary Government, which shall transmit certified copies thereof to all States that have signed it or deposited instruments of accession to it.
As soon as the present Convention enters into force, a certified copy thereof shall be transmitted by the Depositary Government to the Secretariat of the United Nations for registration and publication in accordance with Article 102 of the Charter of the United Nations.

When the replacement of four 8 inch nominal bore valves was required within the Energy Centre at the ICC (International Convention Centre), Birmingham, it threatened to leave the nearby Hyatt Regency Hotel, as well as the centre's conference halls, Symphony Hall and the NIA (National Indoor Arena) without water for several days.
Mervyn Trow, from the ICC, comments on the work that took place: "It must have seemed an unusually hospitable environment for the Furmanite technicians involved in this project, but the techniques required for the job were just as complex as they might be out in the North Sea, for example.
Furmanite is set to undertake a similar second stage project at the ICC again later this year.

The seating contract for the Cape Town International Convention Centre has recently been awarded to South African company, Rodlin Design, who will produce over 2000 seats to be installed in two fixed raked seating auditoria at the CTICC.
The CTICC and Cape Town Convention Bureau (CTCB) joined forces in January to kickstart a university roadshow programme, with the first workshop being held at Stellenbosch University on 31st January 2002.
Rick Taylor, CEO of the Cape Town Convention Bureau added that their priority is to assist the academic market in attracting conferences to Cape Town by providing strategic information and trend information on Cape Town's congress industry.
