The IDTA is the largest teaching organisation of its kind in the world and hence a recognised authority on the practice of dance.
The present IDTA is the result of the amalgamation of several smaller bodies: the International Dancing Masters’ Association formed in 1930 (becoming a limited company in 1955), and forging powers with the then Dance teachers’ Association (a combination of the Manchester and Birmingham area teachers) in 1967, to become the IDTA that we know today.
The IDTA is essentially a teaching association, indeed “The largest association of dance teachers in the world”, and is concerned primarily with the development of good teaching practice.
