International DanceSport Federation (IDSF) (formerly ICAD) was founded in 1957.
The International Olympic Committee granted full IOC Recognition of DanceSport and of IDSF as sole representative body on September 5, 1997.
The International News (Tanzsportmagazin) was the official IDSF magazine, published by International DanceSport Media GmGH, Switzerland during 1998--2004.Since 2004 a colored PDF format downloadable magazine DanceSport Today is issued as the official IDSF magazine, with limited number of printed copies available upon ordering from the IDSF website.

DanceSport is competitive ballroom dancing, and is now a widely recognized international sport.
Formerly known as ballroom dancing, the name was changed in 1989 to DanceSport to mark the distinction between competitive dancing, as opposed to social or recreational dance.

 Dance Sport in the Olympics
On Sept. 8, 1997 IOC granted the International DanceSport Federation (IDSF) status as a recognized federation and a member of the IOC.
Chapters 30 and 57 of the IOC Charter grant the international federation for a given sport the right to set the technical rules for competitions in that sport.
The reasons for having an international federation recognized by IOC, even though the sport is not included in the Olympics, are 1) because it is a requirement for ultimately becoming a medal sport and 2) IOC believes strongly in furthering sports on the international level.

In the case of association, region, federation, club, studio, university or any other structure with the consent of the Member PAB or Associate to which they are registered, which shall obtain the prior approval of FEDANSA National.
Any association, region, federation, club, studio, university or any other structure having any connection to, or relationship with DanceSport structures which is formed without the consent of FEDANSA or the Provincial or Regional member or associate member having jurisdiction over the area concerned shall be deemed to be an unrecognised structure.

The Irish DanceSport Federation, the Governing Body for DanceSport in Ireland, was initially founded in 1937 with the title “The Irish Society of Amateur Dancers”.
In 1974 the Society was recognised internationally as the Governing Body for Amateur Competitive Ballroom Dancing in Ireland and accepted as the sole Irish member of the International Council of Amateur Dancers, the body which is now known as the International DanceSport Federation.
This is the Governing Body for DanceSport world-wide and is recognised by and a member of the International Olympic Council.

The Southern African DanceSport Federation (SADSF) came into being on 1st May, 2004 at a meeting held in Johannesburg, South Africa at which eight Southern African DanceSport Associations were represented, including Angola, Cameroon, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.
The formation of the SADSF was conceived during a meeting between Lesotho and Swaziland representatives on April 5, 2003 during the formal launch of the Lesotho DanceSport Association.

It is also the reason why the DanceSport Council of the Philippines organized a tour of the Philippines by Australian dancesport teachers and competitors, during the centennial celebrations.
Certainly there will need to be a transfer of dancesport skills and technology from overseas, given the rapid growth of dancesport (ok, ballroom dancing if you're into nostalgia) in the Philippines, and Australia is a likely supplier of those skills and technology.
