The International Federation for Information Processing is a non-governmental, non-profit umbrella organisation of national societies working in the field of Information Technology.
IFIP is the leading multinational, apolitical organisation in Information and Communications Technologies and Sciences, recognised by United Nations and other world bodies, and represents IT Societies from 55 countries or regions, covering all 5 continents with a total membership of over half a million.
IFIP Working Groups provide researchers and educationalists with an international forum where ideas, practical educational experiences, research and policy can be presented and discussed.

The International Federation For Information Processing (cache) Working Group 8.2 was established by IFIP in 1977 as a working group concerned with "the interaction of information systems and the organisation." See the aim and scope.

 IFIP WG10.4 on Dependable Computing and Fault Tolerance
The Working Group 10.4 of IFIP was established by the IFIP General Assembly in October 1980, and operates under IFIP Technical Committee TC-10, "Computer Systems Technology".
The concept of WG 10.4 was formulated during the IFIP Working Conference on Reliable Computing and Fault Tolerance on September 27-29, 1979 in London, England, held in conjunction with the Europ-IFIP 79 Conference.
The WG 10.4 is organizing and sponsoring, together with TC-FTC, the IEEE/IFIP International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks (DSN) that was launched in June 2000 in New York City, USA as the reunion of FTCS and DCCA.

IFIP World Computer Congress 2006 in Santiago de Chile 20-25 August 2006 will have a Security Stream.
At the closing ceremony of the IFIP SEC 2003 conference on 28 May in Athens, Greece it was announced that professor Roger Needham was the 2003 recipient of IFIP TC-11's Kristian Beckman Award.
IFIP TC 11 has launched a mailing-list in order to keep subscribers informed on information-security related issues.

The ALGOL (Algorithmic Language) programming language was developed by committees of the Association for Computing Machinery and the Gesellsch aft fur Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik for the task for specifying computational processes on digital computers.
In 1962, the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) created Working Group 2.1 (Working Group on ALGOL) which displaced the original group and the ALGOL Bulletin became an IFIP publication.
