While the authors acknowledge the limitations of an international study of this type, where the researchers in each country used different approaches to selecting participants, and where different factors affected response rates in each case, nevertheless it was possible to draw some conclusions specific to each country and some general conclusions.
This comprehensive report will be of interest to those who wish to understand the role of the school principal in a successful school library programme; to researchers in the field of school librarianship in general; and to researchers who are seeking guidance in developing international comparative projects in the fields of education and librarinship.

Book burning, banning of libraries, banning of cultural institutions and ballet, opera, circus and concerts and foreign cultural associations, along with harassment and imprisonment of intellectuals and other opponents of the government, are all examples of the severe oppression experienced by the people of Turkmenistan.

While she was ILS program director, Tillett represented the Library on the international Joint Steering Committee for Revision of AACR as it revised Chapter 9 of the “Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules” 2nd Ed.
She was involved in early work by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions on international authority control and participated in the American National Standards Institute’s Committee Z39 and collaborations led by the former National Bureau of Standards for defining character sets.

Fifty library planners visited Tisch for an IFLA pre-conference on new library planning hosted by Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott, the architectural firm that designed Tisch, which opened five years ago.
On August 15, 50 university administrators planning new libraries toured Tisch and three other Boston libraries as part of the Society of College and University Planners conference, which was meeting in Boston.

IFLA '97 The International Federation for Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) annual conference was held August 31 through September 5 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
As a delegate from the Special Libraries Association attending an IFLA conference for the first time, I was not entirely prepared for the diversity and complexity of both the conference and the organization itself.
Perhaps more significantly, though, I understood how very appropriate the conference theme, "Libraries and Information for Human Development," was and how important it is that thousands of library professionals apply their energies to make IFLA work.
