The International Fleet Review took place on 28 June 2005, as part of Trafalgar 200, the celebrations to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
The last fleet review by the Queen in the United Kingdom was for the commemoration of Battle of the Atlantic anniversary in 1999.
This review, however, went with the modern trend to inviting foreign warships too, and was the largest on record in terms of nations attending and of number of ships [1] [2] - 167 naval and merchant ships attended, including 56 British warships.

A fleet review is principally the President's show since, as the commander-in-chief, he is entitled to inspect his fleet.

France, the paper proclaimed, was suffering from a "legacy of embarrassment" over the defeat at Trafalgar, in which the 33-strong combined fleet was trounced by Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson's forces, with the loss of 22 ships.
Colin White, chairman of the Nelson Commemoration Committee, the coordinating body for the bicentenary, is adamant that the anniversary should be a force for reconciliation.

 Sail Training International - The Tall Ships Races 2005
Many of the Class A ships had just taken part in the International Fleet Review and Festival of the Sea in Portsmouth, UK before arriving in Waterford so were already well prepared for the festive atmosphere that greeted their arrival.
The Tall Ships' Races 2005 fleet consisting of 97 vessels, including 31 Class A ships, was going to be on a completely different scale and the town had given itself over entirely to the event and the ships' arrivals were greeted with great enthusiasm.
A fine parade of sail was held out of the town and, as the fleet disappeared on the next leg of their voyages, all of those who taken part in The Tall Ships' Races 2005 had time to think back and remember what an unforgettable experience it had been.
