The International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition is one of the oldest and the most prestigious piano competitions in the world, organized in Warsaw since 1927 and held every 5 years since 1955.
Until the 2000 competition, the jury could opt to not award prizes.
In 2000, the rules changed to require all six prizes to be awarded, and after 15 years of not awarding the First Prize, the award went to Yundi Li of China.

 The Frederic Chopin International Piano Competition
The 5th Competition held in 1955 was organized by the Executive Committee of the 5th International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition appointed by the Minister of Culture and Arts.
The juries of the eighth and ninth Competitions were headed by Kazimierz Sikorski, composer, teacher, music theoretician and rector of the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw, and that of the tenth in 1980 by Kazimierz Kord, conductor, director and artistic director of the National Philharmonic.
Pre-war Competitions were composed of two stages, the fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth of three stages, the seventh, ninth and consecutive ones of four stages, with the last stage as the Competition finale.

The reaction of the audience members following the performance of Chopin's E Minor Concerto, as well as, that of the panel of judges adds even more interest to this excellent musical documentary of a special young artist and the youngest ever to win the Chopin competition.
The first view point is a standard, edited, concert video view, and the second one, which I like the most, is from the camera putted beside the piano keyboard, unedited, and, yes, you can see Yundi Liýýs finger movement from the beginning to the end, even for the whole concerto.
Video quality is really good and multi angle viewing is available with this DVD.Price of this DVD is high as it is imported from Japan but you won't be disappointed at its sense of occasion that captures well the spontaneity and excitement one has come to expect from the best of live performances.

Your family can enjoy a good Chopin piano concert with angle one, while you can study Yundis finger movement with angle two; all on the same DVD.
The only let down is this DVD only has three songs from Chopin, but this is definitely one of the best Chopin Piano Concerto No.1 videos available on the market today.
This video might not be digitally recorded, since I noticed there are a few particles and the video is not as sharp as those digitally recorded videos, but that does not affect the quality of the film as a whole.
