The International Institute of Social History, founded in 1935, is a major research and documentation centre on international labour history.
International Association of Labour History Institutions, the International of labour history archives, libraries and museums.
In addition, the IISH obtained the archive of the International Student Conference (which experienced considerable upheaval during the Cold War) in a truly remarkable manner: in 1969 the Institute rescued the archive from oblivion by assisting with the organization's disbandment.

The IISH is also home to a number of other documentary institutions, most notably the Netherlands Economic History Archive (NEHA) and the Press Museum.
The International Review of Social History is published for the Institute by Cambridge University Press and appears three times a year, plus one supplement.
One of the partners of IISH in India is the Centre for the Studies of Social Sciences.

The International Institute of Social History (IISH) began life as a private initiative and, over the years, it has come to see its primary task as preserving and making accessible socio-historical material for historical study.
To this day the IISH continues this pursuit with more than 2500 archives, which includes the records of the anti-nuclear movement and the 1989 Chinese student democratic movement, parties, trade unions, the recently deposited records of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), Amnesty International and Greenpeace International.
The Institute, in collaboration with the Antenna fundation, established a project aimed at archiving important digital documents concerning social, political and environmental issues.

On the eve of International Women's Day, 8 March, the International Institute of Social History (IISH) has published on its Web server the first two parts of a Guide to Sources for Women's History in the IISH to highlight the presence of women and women's organizations in the Institute's rich collections.
The women who left traces of their life and work in the International Institute of Social History were typically involved in the labour movement and other social movements.
The lists are based on the 'Index to the Archival Collections' held by the IISH (URL: http://www.iisg.nl/archives/index.html), with additional entries for women whose papers are part of the archives of their correspondents or relatives, and some introductory biographical and bibliographical notes.

The major topics to be discussed will cover such problems as invention of history and state building, history and politics, mythologization of history, ethno-nationalism and history writing, elements of identity and public memory, interethnic and international relations and reconstruction of the historical past of peoples and states.

The Netherlands Economic History Archive (NEHA), established in 1914, has as its objective the collection, preservation, ordering and processing of source material of importance for economic history in the broadest sense.
In order further to expand and tighten the economic history infrastructure the NEHA conducts the (Dutch-language) Business Archives Register of the Netherlands (BARN) which enables researchers quickly to gather information on the availability, location and size of company archives.
From 2004 onwards the NEHA publishes - in co-operation with the International Institute of Social History - the Tijdschrift voor sociale en economische geschiedenis.
