Nurses worldwide have drawn the attention of public and policy-makers towards investing in education, health care and sound social policy for alleviating poverty.
This year's theme, 'Nurses: working with the poor against poverty', encompasses issues relating to health and poverty in light of the fact that one billion of the world's six billion people remain deprived of their basic needs of food, water, sanitation, health care, housing, and education.
The day acknowledges nurses' role in alleviating poverty, and increased awareness amongst the nursing community in particular and people in general of the vicious cycle of poverty in Pakistan, as well as in the developing world.

International Federation of Perioperative Nurses is celebrating with nurses around the world, the birthday of Florence Nightingale on 12 May. International Nurses Day is a significant day for nurses globally and this year highlights the theme of ‘Safe Staffing saves Lives’.
All perioperative nurses care about this issue although we are not all empowered to do anything about it, we all strive wherever in the world we work, to maintain a safe environment for all our patients and staff.
