International Socialists is the name of the number of Trotskyist organisations in the International Socialist Tendency.
The American IS is not a member of the International Socialist Tendency though a split from it, the International Socialist Organization, was in the IST for many years until its expulsion in 2001.
The International Socialists (Scotland) are part of the Committee for a Workers International.

The International Socialist Tendency is an international grouping of organisations around the ideas of Tony Cliff, founder of the Socialist Workers Party in the UK.
The lack of an international organization has been the source of criticism by dissident groups as the lack of a formal international democratic structure means that the leadership of the British SWP has enormous influence over the other sections without being democratically accountable.
In the 1960s the International Socialists (as the group was now called) established links with militants in a number of countries which led to the formation of IS groups in their countries.

They were founded as the International Socialist Club in 1964 in Berkeley by a group of former Independent Socialist League members around Hal Draper, who had opposed its dissolution into the Socialist Party of America in 1958.
This led to the expulsion of this group and the formation of the International Socialist Organization.

Revolutionary Socialist League: Formed in 1973 as a split from the International Socialists (IS), the RSL opposed the "reformist" policies of the IS toward labor bureaucrats and the IS's rank-and-file caucuses.
Socialist Party of America: Formed in 1901 from the moderate ("Kangaroo") wing of the Socialist Labor Party, the Social Democratic Party of Eugene V. Debs, and a group of Christian socialists led by congregationalist minister George Davis Herron (1862-1925).
Socialist Unity sought to promote regroupment of the far left, and found a common cause with the International Socialists (IS).

The reader should note that Germain was the pen-name then used by Ernest Mandel, that John C. Wright was the “Russian expert” of the Socialist Workers Party of the USA and that the initials IS stood for International Secretariat – the leading body of the FI.
The resulting splits leading to the establishment of three “Fourth Internationals” plus a “Revolutionary Marxist Tendency of the Fourth International” which, however, maintains that the FI does not exist, were not solely due to the failure to come to grips with the problem of Stalinism.

Socialist Worker was cautioned by the police with a threat of action for criminal libel.
Socialist Worker added to the ‘Where We Stand’ column ‘We are for an end to all forms of discrimination against homosexuals’, and a new IS Gay Group was established; since then the organisation has continued to campaign and make publicity around the gay question.
In all cases the vote was, as expected, small; but the intervention of the IMG (under the electoral guise of ‘Socialist Unity’) and other far left groups meant that the results were in some cases much worse than expected; moreover, experience showed that it was difficult to maintain those branches built around an election campaign.

It was decided to hold the first International Women's Day on the 19 March, 1911.

 Reflections on the International Socialist Organization
We met with members of the New Socialist Group (which had its' roots in a split with the IS from a few years ago) and the Freedom Socialist Party to discuss, in advance of the formation of a the Socialism From Below Group, how we could best work together in a non-sectarian fashion.
In both cases, I was approached long in advance by organizers of the meetings (longtime socialist activists such as William Kay, Michael-David Goodman and Ken Hiebert) to attend in an "official" capacity and sit on a panel during one of their many debates (I rarely have time to go anwhere "unannounced").
I've noticed that of the many splits from the International Socialists, across the world, most of the complaints against the leadership follow a particular pattern.

Former French Prime Minister Laurent Fabius is the second most senior member of the party, but has seized on public anger over the relocation of French factories to the European Union's new members.
Party leader Francois Hollande has called for party unity before it publishes its stance, but Fabius is apparently jockeying to position himself as the party's candidate for the 2007 presidential elections, the newspaper said.
For next year's national referendum on the EU constitution, the Socialist party reportedly was posturing to vote in favor, but Fabius has rocked the party with his threat, the newspaper said.
