International Students Day is an international observance of student activism, held annually on November 17.
Taking the day differently than its original meaning, a number of universities mark it, sometimes on a day other than November 17, for a nonpolitical celebration of the multiculturalism of their international students.
The Athens Polytechnic uprising against the Greek military junta of 1973 came to a climax on November 17, with a violent crackdown and a tank crushing the gates of the university.

Students who have not resided in Kansas for six months prior to the first day of the semester (or the summer session) are determined to be non-resident students and must pay out-of-state tuition rates.
A student who is classified as a non-resident for tuition purposes when enrolling and who disagrees with that classification shall be entitled to an appeal, provided that a written appeal is filed with the Registrar within 30 days from the date of the enrollment.
A student who is classified as a resident for tuition purposes at the time of enrollment and who subsequently is reclassified as a non-resident for such purposes and who disagrees with that reclassification may make an appeal provided that a written appeal is filed with the Registrar within 30 days of notification of reclassification.

Entry into the U.S. Generally, international students must obtain a passport from their government and a visa from a United States Consulate or Embassy to be eligible to enter the U.S. The University enrolls many students in various temporary (non-immigrant) visa statuses.
Students must be enrolled full time for 12 credit hours for a full term and 6 credit hours for a half term, for eight months of the calendar year.
Students who move into their residence hall room for these programs are charged a fee for all days prior to the official contract start date.

On November 17th 1939 students resistance in the streets of Prague against Nazi occupation inspired the establishment of an anti-Nazi students coalition.
In 1941 November 17th was declared International Students Day by the International Students Council in London which became the starting point of the founding of the International Union of Students - IUS.
Given the significance of the alliance which defeated the Nazis, the courage that was taken by our predecessors in resisting nazism and fascism, the IUS has maintained the tradition of marking 17th November each year as the International Students Day.

International Day, is for students from all over the world to showcase their countries' cultures and traditions.
Junior Christina Hyde, a program assistant for the International Center, said she is very excited about International Day because it is a chance to be assimilated into another person's culture.
Hyde said the International Day is a great way for students from other cultures to come out and share a part of their culture with the rest of Marquette.

 Clarke Road celebrates International Day
International Day at Clarke Road began with a presentation by Dr. Ted Hewitt, Associate Vice-President of Research and International Relations at the University of Western Ontario.
During her presentation, students watched a video on South Africa and discussed issues related to the country such as the history of apartheid and Nelson Mandela’s struggle.
Jen Solomon, a grade 12 student at Clarke Road enjoyed International Day and was impressed by the presentations made by the participating countries.

Students from China and other regions of Asia affected by the SARS virus will not be accepted for the summer session at the University of California at Berkeley, the chancellor has ruled.
Several hundred international students are being turned away, and the university is refunding their enrollment fees.
Current students who travel in the affected areas during the summer, as well as newly admitted students arriving for the fall semester, will be required to fill out a lengthy survey detailing where they traveled and their health condition.

Although the issues vary from country to country, the overall message is clear: the students’ unions of the world are calling upon their governments to oppose war, to end human rights abuses, and to defend public education from trade deals that threaten accessibility and government’s ability to provide high quality public services.
The international student movement has named these broad trends in education “commodification”, and International Students’ Day 2002 marks the intensification of a global student campaign to eradicate poverty and to defend and support high quality public education at all levels.
