	International Relations
		International Relations (IR) is concerned with transnational interactions among countries, an issue that has gained added significance in the wake of the new world disorder of post-September 11, 2001.
		Because IR is carried out within a global society that is informally regulated by norms, rules, and institutions, scholars refer to the global environment as an "international system." An important goal of this study is to describe the nature and evolution of contemporary global structures.
		The B.A. in International Relations has also proven to be a successful undergraduate degree for graduate programs and law school.

	International Relations
		An introduction to international law, with particular emphasis on law that attempts to govern the use of force by states.
		This course is a survey of Russia's relations with the world, and particularly with Europe and the United States, from the Revolution through the Soviet period to the present.
		Topics include `weak-state' strategies of international relations; the management of hemispheric security concerns and intra-regional rivalries; prospects for economic and political integration; forms and significance of external influence; and the role of such current problems as debt, trade, and illegal drugs in structuring the region's foreign relations.

		The International Relations & Diplomacy specialization of the International Studies major is intended to provide liberal arts students with an introduction to the relations between sovereign states in a continuously evolving international system.
		Centering on the post-World War II period, it looks at the historical genesis of the current international system, at the relations, conflictual and cooperative, between states in areas like collective problem-solving, diplomacy, and trade and at the role of international organizations, like the United Nations, in mediating these relations.
