		The New International Version (NIV) is an English translation of the Christian Bible which is the most popular of the modern translations of the Bible made in the twentieth century.
		The New International Version project was begun to meet the perceived need of having an updated Bible in contemporary English but which preserved traditional Evangelical theology on these contested points.
		Packaged versions of the NIV usually feature an introduction to the individual chapters as well as charts, maps, etc. Also, there are numerous study bibles available with extensive notes on the text and background information to make the Biblical stories more comprehensible.

	New International Version
		The New International Version (NIV) was a produced by a committee of scholars associated with various evangelical churches in America, who began work on the version in 1965.

		The Revised Authorised Version is the British usage edition of the New King James Version published by Thomas Nelson Publishers of Nashville, Tennessee, owners of the copyright of both versions.
		The version of 1611 was itself a revision of earlier versions, "which embodied the ripe fruit of nearly a century of labour, and appealed to the religious instinct of a great Christian people, and gainedby its own internal character a vital authority which could never have been secured by an edict of sovereign rulers".
		Although the revisions fall short of the elevated style of the Authorised Version, and the changes in translation are very numerous, much of the character of the Authorised Version is retained and on the whole the revisions avoid the more colloquial and paraphrastic style of the New International Version.

	Today's New International Version (TNIV)
		On Jan 28, 2002 the International Bible Society announced the publication of this third gender-neutral revision of the New International Version, and distributed advance review copies of the New Testament at the Christian Booksellers Association annual convention.
		The version features the usual gender-neutral alterations: "brothers and sisters" is put instead of "brothers" (but the reader is not informed of the change in a footnote, as in the NRSV); the generic masculine use of "man," "he," "his," etc., is eliminated, usually by recasting the sentences with plural forms.
		Obviously the translators did not feel that the version had to be in language that is actually used by young people, even in such passages as this, which have so much to do with the real-life struggles of youth.

	Which Bible is the Word
		Until recently, the Authorized Version (AV) (which is more commonly referred to as the King James Version (KJV)) was considered to be the English translation of the Bible.
		Roberts and Hall base their criticism on a belief that "a change in one verse renders the concept at least contradictory to other verses," (10) but this is simply not the case.

	Gender neutral Bible stirs debate
		An effort to provide a newer, more readable version of the enormously popular New International Version Bible drew more criticism this week, as a conservative religious group presented a list of 100 Christian leaders opposed to the new translation.
		Where the previous version rendered Hebrews 2:6 as, "What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?" the TNIV reads," What are mere mortals that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?"
		There is a version of the Bible written from the Jewish point of view.
