Internet Explorer for Mac (also referred to as Internet Explorer:mac or Internet Explorer Macintosh Edition) was a proprietary and freely available web browser developed by Microsoft for the Macintosh platform.
Although Internet Explorer for Mac did not have any PNG support at all until version 5.0 (a year or two after most popular browsers), the PNG support added in that version was said at the time to be the best available on any platform, including transparency and colour correction.
Internet Explorer for Mac includes an option to change the browser color to your favorite iMac color (or a color that matches the color of your computer), for example, Lime, Strawberry, Ruby, Snow, Tangerine, etc. The first builds had 9 choices of colors, but later builds had 15.

Microsoft is just stopping development of Interenet Explorer for the Macintosh--they're not stopping development (of all their Mac products) completely, at least not according to this article, even though their legal requirment to expired.

Microsoft said it would continue to support Internet Explorer 5 for the Mac for the foreseeable future, but development of the browser has been discontinued.
Despite the fact that Internet Explorer development has stopped, Sommer said the rest of Microsoft's Mac product line is safe, saying the company is working hard on the next version of Office and many other products.
Microsoft remains committed to the Mac, Sommer said, noting the recent release of MSN for Mac OS X and future updates to other products that are in the works.

This is a mac site by the way, and we macheads are known for bashing windows.
But MS is not updating IE for the mac and it is really not that great of a platform for the MAC.

I'm not predicting the fall of the browser any time soon, but with the flop that was the IE 7 beta, I wonder if internet users will become a little smarter and migrate to a faster, more compliant browser; or do what they normally do and use the browser that pops up when they login.
