		FDA is concerned about the public health implications of Internet drug sales, and we are responding to these concerns as we develop and implement risk-based strategies to protect the public health.
		In matters relating to pharmaceutical sales over the Internet, the challenge for government at both the state and Federal level is to develop and implement policies that will allow legitimate electronic commerce to flourish while continuing to assure safety and efficacy of these products.
		When the Internet is used for an illegal sale, FDA, working with the Department of Justice (DoJ), must establish the grounds for a case, develop the same charges, and take the same actions as it would if another sales medium, such as a storefront or a magazine, had been used.

		Internet sales from online advertising were at $4.6 billion in the first half of 2004, up 40.2 percent from the same period in 2003, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB).
