Interpol’s debut was a collection of darkly reminiscent tunes that had their base in the late 70s/early 80s post punk, namely Joy Division and a few others.
It eases the listener, who is familiar with the band’s former album, into the rest of the album, and is actually appropriately named.

Interpol: Antics: Pitchfork Record Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
There was nothing about Interpol's self-contained, visionary debut that might have suggested their subsequent eyebrow-raising catapult to fame, particularly given their aversion to the traditional single format.
Fortunately, the members of Interpol understand what other bands take for granted: Careers aren't necessarily made or broken by second albums alone, and an ideal follow-up needn't engage the perceived potential of a defining debut or consciously redefine a pre-established sound in order to be effective.
Interpol avoid common sophomore pitfalls because they refuse to engage the immense weight that surrounds this release, and their tenuous position between shrewd self-consciousness and diversionary costume changing informs this album's openness and plasticity.

Interpol is considered by some to be part of the recent 80s revival that includes such bands as the Stills and Hot Hot Heat.
The references have followed Interpol around since they formed in 1998, and the new album can be expected to bring more along with them, unless the band decides to head off in a completely new and unexpected direction.

CARLOS D. Daniel Kessler, commonly known as the “founder” of Interpol, was born on September 25 in London England.
Besides the fact that he is sort of credited with bringing the band together, it still seems to me that he is a bit of an anchor for the whole group.
His contributions to the band are the roots upon which the band has been built, and his preeminence is genuinely inexpressible.

As of 2000, the band's final lineup was complete, and they began playing at small New York venues before landing a deal, putting out their first release in the form of the third installment of the FukdID EP series.
The natural growth of the band will unquestionably continue, but due to the fact that it takes them ages to be pleased with a song, it may be quite some time until we see new material from them.

“NYC,” originally released on the band’s self-titled EP, is a soaring ballad of conflicted emotions and an ambivalent tribute to the band’s native town.
On “PDA,” Interpol’s hammering rhythm section and Banks’ angry baritone confront a frustrated romance, and what emerges is quite possibly the record’s defining track, a number that is at once coldly insulting and remorseful.
What sets this band apart from its overhyped Seventies-rock-regurgitating contemporaries is that while bands like The Vines and The Hives are content to do little more than write tribute songs to their forefathers, Interpol strives to move beyond the oft-revered sonic battleground of the early Eighties and succeeds in creating something that is distinctly 21st-century.
