I-555 is currently under construction as U.S. Highway 63, which is being upgraded to Interstate standard over that stretch.

The remaining 18 miles (29 km) are built as a four-lane expressway, with one existing interchange (at AR 75 in Marked Tree) and a number of at-grade intersections.
The most likely simplification is removal of the flyover from I-55 NB to I-555 NB; however, this ramp probably carries the most traffic, and the existing loop ramp would need to be rebuilt anyway to accomodate a second bridge over I-55, so at least one flyover seems likely.
Some have suggested that I-555 might eventually be extended to the northwest (along U.S. 63 to Hoxie) to connect with the U.S. 67 freeway extension; however, there are no official plans to that effect.

 Mattox Opinion No. JM-555
Where the statute regulates evenhandedly to effectuate a legitimate local public interest, and its effects on interstate commerce are only incidental, it will be upheld unless the burden imposed on such commerce is clearly excessive in relation to the putative local benefits.
Because the effect on interstate commerce was merely incidental to this purpose, no undue burden on interstate commerce was found to exist.
The purpose of the act is to protect the drug-consuming public; thus the burden on interstate commerce is merely incidental and is outweighed by Texas' interest in controlling the dispensing, distribution, and delivery of prescription drugs.
