The routing between Interstate 95 and the Long Island Expressway was planned as Interstate 495 for a brief time in 1958, with Interstate 78 entailing the Clearview Expressway south of the L.I.E. By December of 1958, the Interstate 78 designation saw extension northward to the planned Throgs Neck Bridge and Expressway.
In 1986, the Throgs Neck Expressway between the Cross Bronx Expressway Extension and Interstate 95 (Bruckner Expressway) was redesignated Interstate 695.
Interstate 78 was to travel east from the Holland Tunnel across the unconstructed Lower Manhattan Expressway to the unconstructed Bushwick Expressway, partially-built Nassau Expressway, and partially-built Clearview Expressway.

D.C's Interstate 695 is the Southeast Freeway, a short route from I-395 to Pennsylvania Ave.
In 1975, the general location for I-95 and I-695 in the area was approved, but it was opposed by nearby townships, and had not yet had environmental impact statements or public hearings.
Interstate 695 would have followed the Cobbs Creek Expressway from I-95 to the proposed West Philadelphia Expressway, then east to the Schuylkill.

In the late 1960's, the Tri-State Transportation Commission and the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) urged construction of a spur connection between I-95 (Somerset Freeway) in Manville Township and I-287 (Middlesex Freeway) in Somerville to serve northwest-to-southwest traffic.
The I-695 spur, known unofficially as the Somerset Freeway Extension, was approved by the BPR in October 1968.
In conjunction with I-95 and I-287, the 3.4-mile-long, four-lane I-695 was to form part of a bypass around the New York-northeast New Jersey metropolitan area.

Interstate 895 was never constructed, but there is evidence at the I-95/295 half-cloverleaf interchange in Massachusetts that the 295 roadway was intended to continue.
Interstate 295 was originally envisioned as part of a beltway around Richmond only, and was included in Virginia's original interstate system.
The interstate portion would extend from I-64 west of the city, clockwise to just beyond I-95 to the south.

 Interstate 95 Jammed In Bus-Truck Crash
State police say a bus driver is being flown to a hospital after two tractor trailers, a bus and some cars were involved in a crash on northbound Interstate 95, between the Baltimore Beltway and White Marsh.
There is a school for deaf children just off I-695, only a few miles away, so that would seem to be the most likely explanation for the passensers on the bus.
The bus, carrying 27 students and five staff members, was heading back to New Jersey after an athletic event at the Maryland School for the Deaf in Columbia about 7:20 p.m.
