History of Interplanetary and Interstellar War
But with increasingly cheap amat, and eventually GUT-drive, and the opening of the interstellar frontier to development and exploitation, the colonial megacorps found themselves fighting small scale consolidation wars, which the Federation was powerless to prevent.
The consolidation wars were however rarely reported by the corporate owned media (the Cyberians and other subversives however had a field day with them).
Nevertheless, war continued to be a part of civilization, especially out in outer regions where the central mainbrains and empires have less authority, and local warlords can establish neofeudal fiefdoms.

  History of the Interstellar Wars
Finally the War became troublesome enough to warrant the attention of the Sharurshid’s central management; and in early 2158 AD the Diikagkarunii was replaced and his replacement, eager to end the costly war, ceded the entire Sol subsector to the Terrans in return for peace.
By this stage the war was proving to be a strain on both parties economies and in 2213 AD a treaty was negotiated in which the Terrans regained the worlds they had lost in the 3rd War.
The Nth Wars were a period of unprecedented chaos throughout the Ziru Sirka Not only were the Terrans advancing through the Empire sweeping all before them, but the Vargr were pillaging and conquering the coreward provinces and many of Vilani subject races seized the opportunity to rebel against their former masters.

The difference between a colonial war and a rebellion is that fighting takes place between full-fledged member states and their colonies, and not between full-member worlds (as in a revolution).
A “bad war” is a conflict in which no limitations are made and restrictions are unenforceable; use of nuclear weapons is possible, and repatriation bonds do no more than bring a good chuckle to the party it is presented to.
Unlike a frontier war, an interstellar war is fought in a civilized region of space.

The Forever War, Joe Haldeman - HarperAcademic
The Forever War boldly tells the story of William Mandella, a physics graduate who is reluctantly drafted to fight in an interstellar war against the Taurans, an alien race that is a supposed threat to humanity, although no one seems to know why the Taurans are such a threat.
Mandella fights this war in battlefields that are light years away, skyrocketing him hundreds of years into the future through the process of time dilation.
The scenes of death depicted throughout The Forever War are striking in their descriptive language and realism, which is made all the more poignant when one realizes that the interstellar war in the book is used as a metaphor by the author to illustrate his fighting experiences in the Vietnam War.

Klingon Civil War - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki
The Klingon Civil War was a conflict fought in early 2368 over the right to choose the next Chancellor of the Klingon High Council and de facto leader of the Klingon Empire.
The war was fought between forces loyal to Gowron, the legally appointed candidate, and the supporters of the House of Duras, led by Lursa and B'Etor.
The war was a decisive victory for Gowron, but it was achieved only through indirect assistance from the United Federation of Planets in exposing covert Romulan assistance to the forces of the Duras family.

RWJSI Lecture : The First Interplanetary War
These wars were not interplanetary wars, they were combinations of an intra planetary and an interstellar war fought by starships between stars and by troops on a single planet.
Where the current war is different to any conflict we have fought before is that it involves the transport of troops and equipment from the combatants home planets to the planets held, or threatened by, enemy troops and equipment - in other words an interplanetary war.
Essentially these are transfer from the interstellar transport to the interface dockside, transfer from the dockside to the interface vehicle and the round trip time for the interface vehicle (the latter is of course also modified by the number and capacity of interface vehicles).

Scientists Toast the Discovery of Vinyl Alcohol in Interstellar Space
Of the approximately 125 molecules detected in interstellar space, scientists believe that most are formed by gas-phase chemistry, in which smaller molecules (and occasionally atoms) manage to "lock horns" when they collide in space.
The problem with this theory, however, is that the newly formed molecules would remain trapped on the dust grains at the low temperature characteristic of most of interstellar space, and the energy necessary to "knock them off" would also be strong enough to break the chemical bonds that formed them.
This would liberate the molecules from their chilly nurseries, depositing them into interstellar space where they can be detected by sensitive radio antennas on Earth.
