When a traffic control signal is not in operation, such as before it is placed in service, during seasonal shutdowns, or when it is not desirable to operate the traffic control signal, the signal faces shall be covered, turned, or taken down to clearly indicate that the traffic control signal is not in operation.
Flashing signal indications shall comply with the requirements of other Sections of this Manual regarding shielding or positioning of conflicting signal indications, except that flashing yellow signal indications for through traffic shall not be required to be shielded or positioned to prevent visual conflict for road users in separately controlled turn lanes.
When a traffic control signal is operated in the flashing mode, a flashing yellow signal indication should be used for the major street and a flashing red signal indication should be used for the other approaches unless flashing red signal indications are used on all approaches.

A slow rising clock signal is a signal that rises to its maximum voltage in a longer period than it takes the same clock signal to travel down a low loss transmission line 6 and be reflected back.
The slow rising clock signal is shown as signal V1, the signal V2 is the signal present at node N2, and the signal V3 is the signal present at node N3.
Therefore, the signals received at the destination ends of the first low loss transmission lines in the circuit can be delayed by a multiple of 1/2 the ramped signal so that all low loss transmission lines 6 in the circuit have clock signals at the input and termination ends which have substantially no skew.

 Bicycle Traffic Signal Clearance
There are also complaints from bicyclists about signals with inadequate duration of the green phase, typically expressed as "Too little time to get across the street before the green ends and conflicting traffic starts." These persons ask for longer minimum-green phases.
The ability to specify two different clearance intervals, depending on the duration of the last green, is likely to save up to 2 seconds on clearance interval for some cycles.
Note that this is the normal sustained speed of a cyclist approaching a green signal, because the 5-second start-up increment is the time difference to clear the intersection between starting from red and starting from green.

Interval signals   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Nearly every interval signal was different and radio stations soon realised the interval signal could also serve as an identification or ‘road sign’ to reassure listeners that they were tuned in on the right wavelength.
The interval signal is the station's own ‘personal belongings’, giving it an individuality of its own, as well as providing the distant listener with an excellent and most pleasant means of identification.
The pioneer interval signal was the tick of the metronome device which is still used by Vienna and a few stations in Eastern Europe.

Signals installed at drawbridges are a special type of highway traffic signal, the purpose of which is to notify traffic to stop because of the road closure, rather than alternately giving the right-of-way to conflicting traffic movements.
The required signal faces should be mounted such that the height to the bottom of the housing of the lowest signal face is a minimum of 4.5 feet and a maximum of 6 feet.

System for signal digitization by spaced interval sampling - Patent 5034813
A signal digitization system and method is disclosed which identifies a plurality of sets of spaced intervals of information; defines a strobing window within each spaced interval in one of the sets at a time; strobes the signal during the strobing window; integrates and holds the strobed signal; and digitizes the integrated signal.
Additionally, the invention features a video signal digitization system having means for identifying a plurality of pixel intervals of a video frame time and means responsive to the means for identifying for defining a strobing window within each spaced pixel interval, independent of any division of the intervals into sets.
The signal is strobed during the strobe window and the strobe signal is integrated and held, after which it is converted from analog to digital form.

 Digital Signals
A one-dimensional digital signal is a sequence of data, represented as a vector in an array-oriented language like IDL.
The signal is defined only at discrete points in time as a result of sampling, or because the instrument which measured the signal is inherently discrete-time in nature.
Because the signal is digital, the conventional way to display it is with a histogram (or step) plot.
