The Harvard Crimson :: Arts :: INTERVIEW WITH A DEAD MAN
In a recent interview with The Crimson, Jarmusch described his latest Miramax release, "Dead Man," as an "acid Western," a term perhaps appropriate to a film which takes the Western idiom and stretches it to its most surreal limits.
"Dead Man," which is set "between 120 and 130 years ago," is the story of a meek accountant, William Blake (Johnny Depp), who leaves his fiancee and Cleveland for a job in the wild, wasted West.
Ironically, "Dead Man" is so strong in terms of style and sound that the script ends up being the weakest part of the film.

Action Vault - Dead Man's Hand Interview
Deriving its name from this fateful combination of cards, Dead Man's Hand is developer Human Head's upcoming action title for the Xbox and PC platforms.
As for the name, historically the 'dead man's hand' refers to the cards held by Wild Bill Hickok when he was shot dead while playing poker in Deadwood, South Dakota.
But in the game, the dead man's hand refers not only the hand that can come up in the poker mini-game played before each mission, but also the hand of El Tejon, a gunslinger left for dead who has come back for revenge on the gang that betrayed him.

When "Dead Man", his sixth feature, premiered at Cannes last year, it suddenly became apparent that Jarmusch's honeymoon with the American press was over—although his international reputation to all appearances survives intact.
There are multiple reasons for this, including "Dead Man" itself, and before getting around to this visionary, disturbing fl-and-white Western—which I regard as his most impressive achievement to date—it's worth considering what's happened to the American independent cinema over the past decade, which has a lot to do with Jarmusch's changed position in the media.
Prior to "Dead Man", when Jarmusch's three features since "Stranger Than Paradise"—"Down By Law" (1986), "Mystery Train" (1989), and "Night on Earth" (1992)--could be partially taken as light, comic entertainments with serious undertones, it was possible to assume that Jarmusch might have continued in such a vein.

Reformation Theology: Dead Men Walking by Pastor John Samson
The Greek word here for "dead" is the word nekros which means "dead like a corpse." As far as his relationship to God is concerned, man is a lifeless corpse, unable to respond or even make a single move toward God, unless God first brings this spiritually dead corpse to life.
He declares that this prior condition was a state of death: “You were dead in trespasses and sins.” Again, this death is obviously not a biological death, as he enumerates activities that these dead, persons were involved in.
The spiritually dead person may or may not have an interest in some kind of religion, but one thing is certain; he has absolutely no interest in a relationship with the real God of the Bible.
