  Intestinal Parasites
BY LEO GALLAND, M.D. The human intestine maintains within its inner cavity a complex, crowded environment of food remnants and microbial organisms (called "the intestinal flora") from which the body derives nourishment and against which the body must be protected.
The complex regulation of intestinal permeability was not understood and autointoxication was attributed to "intestinal stasis", a fancy term for constipation.
If you still find that you cannot increase your consumption of fiber or flora without feeling worse, rather than better, you may have an overgrowth of bacteria or yeast in the small intestine which have adapted to using the fibre you are taking to expand their niche, rather than to limit their growth.

A brief discussion on the benefits of carbohydrates and lactic acid on digestion, intestinal flora and health.
About Intestinal flora: Your intestines are alive with an abundance of bacteria, both beneficial and potentially harmful, that contribute greatly to your overall health.
Intestinal flora is responsible for producing such key nutrients as: nicotinic acid, folic acid, biotin, B 12 and Vitamin K. Therefore, any disturbances in the ideal balance of this flora can subtly or greatly influence health.

 Medmicro Chapter 6
The main factor determining the composition of the normal flora in a body region is the nature of the local environment, which is determined by pH, temperature, redox potential, and oxygen, water, and nutrient levels.
Although the causal relationship of flora to death and disease in humans is accepted, of her roles of the human microflora need further study.

 Intestinal Flora - Lower Intestines - Acidophilus - kitchendoctor.com
Ayurveda teaches that the nutrients absorbed in the lower intestine are used to rebuild not just skin and bones but also the nerve sheaths, brain, reproductive fluids, and the essence of the our being, something called ojas in Sanskrit.
So, the intestinal tract is much more than a sewer line, it is a vital organ upon which we depend for nutrition of the finer type.
While putrefactive bacteria is necessary, an excessive amount means that nutrients are decomposing within the body and producing a noxious gas that is the cause not only of gastric and eliminatory distress but also embarrassing and unhealthy odor.

The structure of the murine intestine in different parts of the GIT most certainly reflects its dominant purpose of digesting and absorbing nutrients.
However, the presence and usage of various immune-response mechanisms also mirror the interplay with the respective resident intestinal bacteria in compartments that these bacteria are adapted to colonize as a permanent or temporary ecological niche.

 Intestinal Flora
The intestinal microflora are important for maturation of the immune system, the development of normal intestinal morphology and in order to maintain a chronic and immunologically balanced inflammatory response.
Lactobacilli and bifidobacteria maintain a healthy balance of intestinal flora by producing organic compounds—such as lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and acetic acid—that increase the acidity of the intestine and inhibit the reproduction of many harmful bacteria.
This bacterium adheres to reinforce the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa, thus preventing the attachment of the pathogenic bacteria to the intestinal wall.

The immunologic effects of normal gut flora are in part due to antigenic stimulation and in part to the bacterial origin of specific immune activators, such as endotoxin lipopolysaccharicle (LPS) and muramyl dipeptides Worrison and Ryan, 1979; Mackowiak, 1982; Stokes, 1984).
Candida species are part of the normal flora of the lower intestinal tract of adult humans, being cultured from stool and rectal mucus of 23.2-82.4% of healthy subjects (Odds, 1988).

Modern research is confirming that a healthy balance of human intestinal flora in the digestive tract is closely linked to healing, immune system enhancement, disease prevention and lifespan extension.
There are many common factors in modern day life and diet that dramatically alter the acid/alkaline levels in the intestines, thereby disrupting the balance of intestinal flora in the gastrointestinal tract.
Disruption of the balance of intestinal flora may lead to the over growth of disease causing, putrefactive bacteria that eventually overcome beneficial bacteria, opening the door to an onset of serious health problems.

His theory (which has and continues to be proved in the dramatic improvements in health of his patients) is that many diseases and conditions such as diabetes and HIV/AIDS occur as a result of an imbalance of health flora (ie acidophollus and lacabacillus), and a overabundance of unhealthy flora such as Candida (yeast fungus).
