  Intimacy : film review
Despite most European commentators expecting Intimacy to be cut to shreds by the hitherto archaic film censorship people in the UK, we have here instead probably the most graphic sex scenes ever to appear in mainstream picture houses.
In this film, we see one hard, with a condom rolled onto it, we see it resting with a condom on it, we see it being sucked.
The film is, at its core, a study of relationships, about what makes people do what they do within relationships and how one relationship affects another.

Encyclopedia: Intimacy (2001 film)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
Intimacy is a 2001 France/United Kingdom/Germany/Spain drama film by Patrice Chéreau and written by Patrice Chéreau, Anne-Louise Trividic and Hanif Kureishi.
The film is about love (understanding without words), moral values, duties, broken dreams, theatre life, not about sex without soul (otherwise Jay would be more happy when a twenty-year-old girl seduces him), though the film is very graphic and contains sex/nudity (that will not distract a mature audience).
The film is considered controversial because of some extremely explicit sex scenes.

 Intimacy (2001): Reviews
This intense film depicts the purely sexual relationship between a lonely man (Rylance) and a married woman (Fox).
Chereau's film is both an observant portrait of class-bound London by a foreigner and an empathetic look at sexual passion that completely avoids cheap prurience.
A better film than Romance (as the trend is to compare the two) but still not a film I would strongly recommend to anyone, especially family :-) It explores some deep emotional and human themes but how well it does that is really up to each individual viewer.

It is an interesting film and introduces in a dynamic way the key concept of the autonomy, sensitivity and intensity of the new baby.

French director Patrice Chéreau's new film ``Gabrielle" is a return to themes explored in his 2001 film ``Intimacy" -- what happens to married women who take lovers, what happens to their relationships when their secret lives are exposed, why people choose to stay in their marriages rather than leave.
