 Underworld: Everything, Everything (2000): Reviews
Everything, Everything is a solid live album, and a great introduction to the music of Underworld, even if its most transcendent moments prove to be all too fleeting.
Despite being assembled from such an array of concerts, the album brilliantly captures the continuity of a live performance.
Everything should be required listening for those who question the validity of electronic in a live format.

mtv.com - News - Downloads, EPs, Singles Conspiring To Kill The Album Format
With album sales slipping for an unprecedented third straight year — the first extended slump since the introduction of the CD in 1982 — labels and artists are beginning to wonder if the album is a thing of the past.
The EP has already proven to be a fine alternative, or supplement, to a full-length album in the U.K. When Southern rockers Kings of Leon released their five-track Holy Roller Novocaine EP overseas in early 2003, it debuted at #6 on the English chart and went on to sell more than 200,00 copies.
By the early '70s, albums were being stuffed with up to a dozen hit tracks and often ran 40 minutes or more.

SLAP SKATEBOARD MAGAZINE - August 2003 - Soundboard
But for anyone who is a veteran Placebo fan, this CD is a must and if you never heard a Placebo album, this is the perfect introduction.
Like the previous record, this too is a concept album; instead of exploring the trials and tribulations of a failed marriage, it follows our protagonist down the trail a little farther and watches him struggle through life a single man again.
Intelligent and uncompromising, listening to that album gave me the same sense of exhilaration that the best skate videos did; halfway through I’d be a bundle of nerves, by the end I was tapping out my adrenaline reserves, ready to get out there and tear it up.

Black Eyed Peas - Monkey Business : album review
Album opener Pump It Up is based around a sample of Misirlou, best known from Pulp Fiction, and it's as exciting an introduction to an album as you're likely to hear.
I was looking forward to receiving my copy of Monkey Business, not because I'm a particularly big fan of the Peas but just to see if this quartet could surpass 2003's Elephunk.
Expect anything spectacular from this album and you'll feel very much short-changed, not even an appearance from Geordie boy Sting improved my opinion of Monkey Business, despite the opening two brilliant tracks.

Right from the beginning I knew what the song was about, I knew it was going to be heavy and that it was going to be the introduction to an album that would take me down some darker and not so happy places.
For as long as I could I had been putting off writing songs for my next album because I knew once I went into this headspace it would be a while before I could surface.

But if you're wanting an introduction to Dolly, or an old fan wanting a nice package of hits you're MUCH BETTER off going for the new remastered hits package from 2003 (I know, how many Greatest Hits albums does Dolly have?!).
Elsewhere, there's a nice mix of the hits and the slightly less well known, including the obligitory "9 to 5" which is always great fun.
It has a lame muzak sound and even Dolly herself sounds like she can't be bothered to sing on it.

Finally, another retooled version of the song appears on the 2003 album Let It Be...
[1] (John Lennon was allegedly critical of the song upon McCartney's introduction, assuming that 'Mother Mary' was merely an allusion to Christianity.) However, whether consciously or not, the words 'let it be' quote Mary’s words to Gabriel in the Gospel of Luke 1:38.
It was released as a single and later on the album Let It Be in 1970.

This release pattern incidentally follows the same pattern as Alex's first releases in 2003, when Introduction was released one week after Maybe That's What It Takes.
Current promotion for Alex appears to be a bit thin on the ground, however we hope that on the back of the excellent album "Honesty" we will see more recognition in the media in the weeks and months to come.
For those with short memories she was the winner of Fame Academy in 2003 and is therefore easy to knock purely on the grounds that she’s come from a TV talent show.

 Shindig! February 2003 Reviews - The 1960s & Early '70s
Not exactly Cultural Studies, but nevertheless this is a nice introduction to London working class culture and the music that spurned it.
The Shanganns, the liners tell us, were a rare group in managing to slip through the cultural boycott net and recorded both 45s and even an album in London.
The album is assuredly not Pet Sounds, but it is an excellent soft pop album basking in the California ethos.

Ian Rilen is a man who needs no introduction here at the bar – his exploits with X and his solo work has been well covered here before.
Passion Boots and Bruises is an album of dirty sleazy bluesy rock that packs one hell of a punch – it’s songs about drinking, fucking up in love and life, the joys of escape from a bad relationship and wanting to wreak vengeance with a shotgun.

Morphizm.com -- Guided By Vision: Guided By Voices, Human Amusements at Hourly Rates
To wit, "My Kind of Solider" and "The Best of Jill Hives", two addictive tongue-twisters from 2003's Earthquake Glue make the cut, although that album's cool-as-shit "Of Mites and Men" does not.
Of course, songs from that album and Alien Lanes, both college radio staples, will most likely have the nostalgia gears turning at full speed for the GBV faithful that glommed onto the band circa 1993, the same time Nirvana was making MTV forget all about New Kids on the Block and Guns 'N' Roses.
Its "Things I Will Keep" is the album's de facto opener, as Human Amusement's first song, the minute-plus "A Salty Salute" from Alien Lanes, is more or less a short kick-off.

This is an introduction with the girls explaining the album name of HALCALI Bacon in a rather curious way.
In 2003, HALCALI debuted with their album Halcali Bacon on For Life Records.
In terms of music, HALCALI's style is generally hip-hop, but there is very much a culmination of other genres when you listen to the second album, particularly, rap/easy listening combinations, which work well.
