  Inuyama Castle
Inuyama Castle is the oldest castle in Japan and is reserved in its original state.
The castle was constructed in stages, the entire donjon was moved to Inuyama from a different castle known as Kanayama Castle in the early 1600s.
It suffered damage in an earthquake in 1891 and was returned to the Naruse family in 1895 under the singular condition that they repair the damage to the castle and continue to maintain it.

INUYAMA — A former local city assemblyman of New York origin and seven others officially filed their candidacy Sunday to run in a mayoral election in Inuyama in Aichi Prefecture slated for Dec 17.
Bianchi, whose wife is Japanese, became a naturalized Japanese citizen in 2002 and won a seat in the Inuyama assembly in April 2003 with the largest number of ballots ever cast in the city assembly election of 3,302.
Bianchi said that if he becomes Inuyama mayor, he would be able to better promote the city abroad and increase the number of visitors to boost the tourism industry in Inuyama.

In 1537, Oday Noguyasu, grandfather of the great Oda Nobunaga established this castle, but a tenshu was not constructed until many years.
It was believed that the Inuyama Castle's tenshu was taken from the Kanayama Castle.
After Hideyoshi took control of the area, he placed Ishikaway Sadakiyo at Inuyama, but he lost in the Battle of Sekigahara and also lost possession of the castle.

Early Meiji period Inuyama Yaki bowl, recently imported from Japan.
This is a pristine example in Inuyama style, featuring a crackled off-white glaze accented with a green and yellow floral motif around the rim and depictions of seven highly detailed figures around the outside.
The bowl measures 3 1/2" tall, flairing from 3" diameter at the base to 7" at the rim.

It survived the great 1923 earthquake and was a beautiful historic landmark until 1968 when the "New Imperial Hotel" was built.
The front entry hall was salvaged from the wrecking ball and rebuilt in a curious theme park in Inuyama called Meiji mura (Meiji village).
Inuyama is not much of a city but the area around the castle is pleasant enough and there is a great view of the town from the castle tower.

Inuyama was the main city near the shrine, so we had to go there to get the local train out to Tagata-jinja.
The local castle was supposed to be quite impressive, and as we had nothing to do for the rest of the day, we headed over to check it out.
