The real story is that the Invasion Iowa group have a plot of their own.
Luckily, at least the first two episodes of Invasion Iowa that were available for review are funny, as Shatner and his group do whatever they have to for a laugh at the expense of themselves and not the unsuspecting townsfolk.
Think of all they have to look forward to, such as the next "Trek Fest" in June, the big donation from the Invasion Iowa group to the city for all their trouble, and the upcoming birth of Captain Kirk in a couple hundred years.
