		On a company's balance sheet, inventory is listed as an asset, for the reason that the company ought to be able to turn its inventory into cash by selling it.
		For major distribution companies, where they hold inventory on behalf of their manufacturing clients and do not themselves ever own the product, the term materiel is often used in order to differentiate the status of the items concerned.
