Lamont Dozier - Biography - AOL Music
A galvanizing force in the '60s pop and R&B chart-dominance of the Detroit-based independent record label, the trio later formed Invictus and Hot Wax Records, and enjoyed gold-record-laced success with the Chairmen of the Board, Freda Payne, 100 Proof Aged in Soul, the Honey Cone, and 8th Day.
Born June 16, 1941, in Detroit, Dozier was a part of the Motor City's late-'50s vibrant vocal scene, singing with the Romeos and the Voice Masters.
Dozier restarted his solo artist recording career on Invictus with the mid-tempo ballad "Why Can't We Be Lovers," which went to number six R&B. The follow-up single, "New Breed Kinda Woman" -- a duet with Eddie Holland -- peaked at number 61 R&B in 1973.

So here we are, invictus as an idea, an ideal,a quality, an expression of a strong will, which most of us lack anyway - haha.
Doubts are an important part of life, but in times of postmodern relativism, when every universal truth is denied we need the strength create our own truths to swim against the stream despite all doubts, to remain unbroken and unimpressed, to perceive the ruling conditions, to citicise and disturb or even destroy them.
Self-discipline as the only acceptable discipline let us be noise, let us be invictus as dreamers who don“t break under the real existing shit.

Invictus took its time issuing the second Glass House single; the astrological-themed "I Can't Be You, You Can't Be Me" came out June 1970, with Payne leading again.
Glass House recorded the song, with Payne on lead, before Honey Cone, and those who know say the versions are twins -- every female Eddie Holland produced phrased like him anyway; Glass House threw a tirade when it sold a million.
Holland-Dozier-Holland switched Invictus' distribution from Capitol to CBS Records in 1973, but the fact didn't elate Glass House as they got pink slips and quietly disbanded.

Parliament - Biography - AOL Music
Inspired by Motown's assembly line of sound, George Clinton gradually put together a collective of over 50 musicians and recorded the ensemble during the '70s both as Parliament and Funkadelic.
While Funkadelic pursued band-format psychedelic rock, Parliament engaged in a funk free-for-all, blending influences from the godfathers (James Brown and Sly Stone) with freaky costumes and themes inspired by '60s acid culture and science fiction.
One previously recorded Parliaments single, "A New Day Begins," was licensed to Atco in 1969 and became a number 44 hit that May. By 1970, George Clinton had regained the rights to the Parliaments name: he then signed the entire Funkadelic lineup to Invictus Records as Parliament.

 Invictus Album Discography
The Invictus and Hot Wax labels were formed in Detroit Michigan in 1969 by Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland and Eddie Holland.
Between the time they left and late 1969, they were effectively prevented from recording by a lawsuit filed by Motown, which eventually was settled out of court.
As was the style of H-D-H, they recorded tracks without an artist in mind, so when studio musicians (including Newton) cut "She's Not Just Another Woman" [Invictus 9087] and it became a hit, Newton was asked to put together a group for live shows.

This is certainly no reflection on their huge talents, obviously; more that Motown trained producers were more likely to use Motown trained musicians on Motown-like sessions, as opposed to musicians who were occasionally out of town gigging and for all practical purposes, no longer based in Detroit post late-'71.
