PCWorld.com - Iomega Debuts Versatile Backup Drive
Iomega is releasing this week a new all-around backup solution: It uses hard drive technology, but is packaged in removable cartridges so you can buy one drive yet swap media.

Iomega says the Rev handles the job because it, too, is a back-up medium with a capacity larger than a DVD, and is more reliably portable than USB hard drives.

Iomega is positioning the drive as a faster, more affordable alternative to optical drive technologies such as CD-RW and DVD which can't store as much data and don't perform as quickly, according to Iomega.

Iomega also shifted some of the hard drive's electronics from the Peerless disks themselves to the base station, a development that will allow the company to offer disks priced as low as one U.S. cent per megabyte, Iomega said.
