Since the days of Black Sabbath with Tony Iommi's Seventh Star back in 1986 and the 1996 unreleased Eighth Star album (which would later become the DEP Sessions to be remixed in 2004), Tony Iommi and Glenn Hughes return for their third outing together.
Iommi's excitement about Fused is at a fever pitch and he cannot wait to tour with Hughes and Aronoff.
Fused is more of a harder album than the DEP Sessions as that album was leaning on the softer side.

Iommi invented heavy metal guitar riffing, trademarked the detuned sound and wrote the guitar parts to some of the most memorable and beloved songs in the genres history including “Iron Man,” “Paranoid,” “War Pigs,” “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,” “Heaven and Hell” and “Sweet Leaf.” To say he is a living legend is an understatement.

Iommi features a different vocalist on each of the 10 tracks (almost as many singers as have succeeded Ozzy in the Sab), and the album as a whole is as spotty quality-wise as you'd imagine something with 10 vocalists could be.
Finally Iommi has slipped the chains of his former band and released an album under his own name in an effort to break free of the post-Ozzy Sabbath comparisons and expectations.
Iommi is not a bad album, but it's not an outstanding one.

As expected, the highlight comes from Osbourne, who teams up with Iommi and Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler on "Who's Fooling Who?" a track that sounds much more authentic than either of the new songs on Sabbath's 1998 Reunion album.
And now that Iommi has returned with a solo album, perhaps it's time for the healing to begin.
Iommi's style has always been about repetition, and most of the songs follow his basic formula: an eerie, ethereal opener, followed by a heavy riff repeated several times during each verse, a slight variation on said riff for the chorus, an explosive breakdown featuring a wicked guitar solo and a spooky, drawn-out ending.

Tony's contentment is all the more surprising considering recent reports he is being sued by Osbourne, who is attempting to recover $75,000 Ozzy claims he lent Iommi to get out of jail in time for Sabbath's scheduled reunion concert on November 15, 1992.

Tony Iommi Is Fused With Hughes
Iommi plays well throughout this album although there is a lot of repetition and not a great amount of diversity; you hear a lot of typical heavy dark doom filled power chords - the opening track "Dopamine" sets the pace for that.
This is Tony Iommi, the guitar man that literally created dark metal with his former group Black Sabbath, so your expectations for the heavy riffing will be fulfilled…in the same instance, you will hear some great blues influenced riffing.
Iommi displays some of his best playing on these tracks and the pace changes, going back and forth at the drop of a hat.

Iommi and several lineups released several albums over the next decade, with only 1992's Dehumanizer, featuring a temporary return of Dio, sparking major interest, and the band gradually became more and more inactive as the nineties winded down.
As such, guitarist Tony Iommi might well be considered the father of the metal guitar riff, his distinctive style really unlike anyone else at the time, influencing an infinite number of guitarists that have followed.
Former Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan was an odd, interesting choice to succeed Dio, and the resulting Born Again album was inconsistent and not terribly well received, though it clearly had it's moments with songs such as "Zero The Hero".
