IONIA -- A Grand Rapids Circuit Court Judge will issue a written opinion "as soon as possible" on a petition for declaratory judgment filed by Easton Township resident Jack Elliott against the County of Ionia.
In his petition, Elliott alleges counties may not enact ordinances under state law without a charter and that Ionia County violated campaign finance laws by paying for a zoning pamphlet sent to thousands of county voters last fall.
Ionia County Administrator Mark Howe said Elliott's case is a "moot point" since voters rejected the zoning ordinance by a 2-to-1 margin.
