Iowa (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The album was released on August 28, 2001 by Roadrunner Records.
The cover of the album shows the head of a goat, an image the band incorporated into their live set, on their boiler suits, and in the video for "Left Behind", as the band felt they had been held as scapegoats since the release of Slipknot.
Around mid-2006 a new version of Iowa was released with the cover artwork slighty altered to having many different colors as opposed to the original shiny version, and the inlay lyrics had been printed on normal album sleeve paper instead of the original use of transparent paper.

With this album Slipknot does that pretty well, taking the rage and the angst they simmered within on their last release and refining it, making something that is, in so many ways, attractive.
And when Iowa came out, I was glad to hear a pure anger-metal assault, it was a good listen in the sea of fashionable rap-rock bulls**t bands which ones were the kings of the music world back then (crazytown, limpbizkit etc.).
Their next album went to the dumps as far as I'm concerned, so I look at this as the heaviest they could have ever gotten without falling apart.

Greg Brown : The Iowa Waltz - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
As sweet as a watermelon on a hot summer afternoon, and as a beautifully simple as dusty country road, Greg Brown's Iowa Waltz shows the man who later was to become one of the greatest folk singers of his generation at his earliest and most casually sublime.
A panegyric to Brown's native Iowa, the album has more of a relaxed, group-oriented feel than his later work, as if it were a bunch of friends playing together in a farmhouse on a hot summer evening.
The album has a scratchy, low-fi, almost organic feel to it, and sounds as if were a tape recording of a worn-out old '78.

Amazon.co.uk: Iowa: Music: Slipknot   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Iowa sees them progressing further into the realms of heavy with a very up to date thrash metal sound (they would then progress to progressive metal for Vol.3).
The album begins with "[515]", bassy, twitching synths, accompanied by numerous members shouting and screeching the word 'death' in such a way that the reaper himself could be in their presence.
The first full song is in the form of "People=xxxx"...it's pounding drum/guitar intro is very reminiscent of the previous albums' opener "(sic)"...it malevolently combines an awesome riff with almost war-cry vocals and ultra-violent drumming, it leaves the mind and the senses truly stunned.

The closest thing to this album would be an Elliot Smith record, without as much power.
For the most part, the album is relatively slow tempo, desperate sounding, indie folk rock.
I think the album doesn't work because it is a solo album of sorts.

Slipknot : Iowa - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect   (Site not responding. Last check: )
After a couple years of relentless touring in support of their self-titled breakthrough album, Slipknot regrouped to record Iowa, an ode to their home state that consolidates and punctuates everything that had garnered the band its cultish following.
The monstrous guitar crunch, the concrete-dense rhythmic foundation, the frenzied singing, and the overall madcap fashion of it all -- Slipknot's trademark sound is very much at the forefront of this dark, dark album and is presented in epic form on the extended, album-closing title track, which brings to mind Children of the Corn-type terrors.
Though not quite as commercially viable as the more straightforward Slipknot album, Iowa is a more interesting listen, one that envelopes you in its American Gothic shadow and leaves you feeling unsettled afterward.

Slipknot's much awaited second album, Iowa, has come to haunt me. When asked to review this CD I had some doubts as I had never heard any of their music and only knew about them from a couple of Rolling Stone interviews.
