In Iparralde the language is in regression and is spoken by 25.7 per cent of the population (Continuité de la langue basque, 1995).
It is received in all seven Basque provinces with the exception of the interior of Iparralde, where there are political and territorial problems.
In Iparralde there are three radio stations which broadcast in Basque: Gure Irratia*, Xiberuko Boza* and Irulegiko Irratia*.

The Basques have names for the "French" and the "Spanish" parts of their country: Iparralde (from Ipar, the North) for the "French" part; Hegoalde (from Hego, the South) for the "Spanish" part.
