The Federal Liberal Member for Blair (on the western side of Ipswich) argued that the difficult stretch from Gailes to Dinmore would be better bypassed with a northern route crossing the Brisbane River to Moggill two or perhaps four times.

A female child and the 64-year-old male bus driver were taken to the Ipswich Hospital with possible neck injuries.

"The Ipswich Motorway could be upgraded and six-laned for less than $300 million but the government has procrastinated for two years and the cost of its bypass proposal has blown out by a billion dollars," Tully said.
Proposed to begin at the intersection of the Cunningham and Warrego highways, cross the Brisbane River and join the Logan Motorway south of Brisbane, the bypass is estimated to slash the number of motorists using the motorway daily from 100,000 to 40,000.

 Thunder Down Under Storm Chasing: 27th to 29th November 2005
A lot of heavy rain ensued on the Gateway and Logan motorways on the drive west, and by the time we were back on the Ipswich Motorway the storm was well and truly past the New England Highway linking Warwick and Toowoomba and moving into the Lockyer Valley to the south-west of Ipswich.
It was smooth sailing until we finished the Ipswich Motorway and moved into the traffic light section leading to the city.
We arrived at Anthony's house west of Ipswich and were quietly looking through our photos from the previous days, when a glance at the radar loop showed a strong shower developing about 10-15km to our SE.
