Because the design of the Lahore stadium is good (fort type thing) but apart from that theres we dont have a well designed modern looking stadium...
Well the area around the National Stadium hasn't been that developed as seen from this aerial photo; it is old though so maybe something has developed in this area but lets hope nothing has.
Demolishing the stadium would cost too much; maybe a major renovation would be better with the addition of a second deck to accomadate +80,000 fans.

FAISALABAD, May 26: The Rs 75 million project of installing floodlights in Iqbal Stadium has been completed.
A spokesman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said six poles of 50 feet height have been erected around the stadium, with 70 lights on each pole.
Power for the floodlights will be obtained from a direct line from the grid station to avoid disruption of electricity supply.

IM glad SA have fully licensed stadia coz i think that the stadiums over there are quality.
The licensed stadiums are those of the 2003 World Cup and the 2004 Champions Trophy.
The 1st ever ODI hatrick was made here as well as Javaid Miandad made his 280* here aswell......its a pitty that the stadium is in ruins now days with no international match being played.

Aware of the severe criticism of the Lahore pitch for the dull draw in the first Test, Iqbal Stadium's chief curator Muhammad Shafi had suggested that bulbs be hung over the pitch to "bake" it dry.
In the first Test, 1,089 runs were scored and only eight wickets fell at the Gaddafi Stadium, where weather also played a major role in the dull draw besides the dead pitch.

Jan 21: Former Pakistan captain Asif Iqbal Saturday said cricketing reasons must have prompted India to drop Saurav Ganguly from the second Test but wondered why the former captain had been picked for the tour at all.
Iqbal also said Ganguly had lost his place in the team not on account of the performance of the squad but due to his own form.
Iqbal, who started his career as a medium-pacer before earning the reputation of 'Man of Crisis' due to his ability to score runs in crunch situations, said Ganguly was played in the first Test because the captain wanted experience in the team.
