Mamia Alasania (Georgian: მამია ალასანია) was a commanding General of the Georgian interitor forces who have been killed during the Sukhumi Massacre, along with Zhiuli Shartava, Guram Gabiskiria and others on September 27, 1993.
Born and raised in Sukhumi, Alasania joined the Georgian forces during the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict.
His son, Irakli Alasania became an envoy of the President of Georgia at the Georgian-Abkhaz talks.

Georgia's U.N. envoy Irakli Alasania made the comments amid a spying row that has chilled relations between the ex-Soviet neighbors to the worst level in a decade.

Alasania, meanwhile, told RFE/RL on May 16 that he sees the main danger to the peace process in "provocations" in the conflict zone, and the militarization of the situation in Gali.
Alasania said that the two sides discussed (bilaterally, not at the Coordinating Council session) the possible signing of a formal document on the nonresumption of hostilities, but concluded that they need more time to finalize such a document, which could be signed at a meeting between Bagapsh and Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.
Alasania also said that Georgia would like to "change the format" of the peacekeeping operation to make it more effective and better suited to conditions on the ground, but he declined to specify what, if any, alternatives Tbilisi might propose to the current exclusively Russian peacekeeping force.

Alasania served from March 2006 as adviser to the President of Georgia on Conflict Resolution.  He also acts as the President of Georgia’s Special Representative for the Georgian-Abkhaz talks, a status he retains in his current capacity.  Mr.
Alasania was appointed as the President’s Special Representative for Abhkazia in February 2005 and, at that time, he also acted as Head of Government of the Abkhazia Autonomous Republic.

Alasania, who is the Georgian president’s adviser on Abkhaz conflict resolution, told the coordinating council that his government’s priority was for the displaced Georgians – numbering about 250,000 – to go back to Abkhazia.
