In an effort to strengthen relations between Iran and Venezuela, Iran Air announced last year that it would begin a new transatlantic route from Tehran and Caracas.
The destruction of Korean Air Lines Flight 007 occurred more than 20 years ago, but still proves quite relevant today, especially because of the incomplete and inconclusive evidence regarding the actual series of events on the night of August 31, 1983, and the whereabouts or remnants of the passengers and the airplane.

I enjoyed the clear sounds as it seemed you took away a lot of the engine and air ventilation sounds from the cockpit, which enabled us to hear the pilots exceptionally well.

Let's assume that Iran has exhausted the world’s patience over its “peaceful nuclear energy” research program - a program most analysts believe is a cover for a nuclear weapons program.
Since the Israeli air force does not operate stealth aircraft, there is a reasonable expectation that at some point the aircraft will be detected over Saudi Arabia, either by ground based radar or the AWACS airborne radar platforms.
The use of Turkish airspace for the tanker aircraft to enter Iraq is probably not an option for the same reasons that it is not an option for the fighters – political sensitivities on the part of the Turks and operational security considerations on the part of the Israelis.

Iran also got a fair number of Su-24 Fencers (16-18 of which were from Saddam’s regime), that are organized into one squadron.
Iran’s Air Force is held together by ingenuity a lot of scrounging, and they have also been upgrading their force with modern Russian aircraft.

Editorials condemning the KAL shoot down were filled with phrases like "wanton killing," "reckless aerial murder" and "no conceivable excuse." But when Iran Air's flight 655 was blown out of the sky on July 3, excuses were more than conceivable — they were profuse.
In his lead, Apple observed that "the destruction of an Iranian airliner...came as a sharp reminder of the pervasive role of error in military history." The piece drew many parallels to the Iran jetliner's tragic end — citing examples from the American Revolution, World War II and Vietnam — while ignoring the most obvious analogy.
The Iran Air jet went down in broad daylight, well within its approved commercial airline course over international waters, without ever having strayed into any unauthorized air space.
