Irene Papas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Irene Papas (Greek Ειρήνη Παππά, born September 3, 1926 in Corinth) is a Greek-born actress who has starred in over seventy films in a career spanning more than fifty years.
Irene Papas was born Irene Lelekou (Ειρήνη Λελέκου) in Chiliomodi outside Corinth, Greece.
One of the more unusual moments in Papas' career came in 1970, when she guested on the album 666 by Greek rock group Aphrodite's Child on the track 8 (infinity symbol).

Ground and Sky review - Irene Papas - Odes
Irene Papas is an international star best known for her work in the films The Guns of Navarone and Zorba the Greek (both with Anthony Quinn) and her lead in Elektra.
She had worked previously with Vangelis earlier on in the 1970s, in Aphrodite Child's 666, turning in a radical vocal performance on the track "∞," that to my understanding delayed the release of the album.
The songs capture the various shades of Greece beautifully, from the martial "Les 40 Braves" to the soothing "Menousis." Papas adjusts her affect accordingly, defiant and imperial on the former, then hospitable and genial on the latter.

All songs Greek actress Irene Papas sings on this album are Greek traditionals to which Vangelis adds two instrumental tracks.
The latter wrote a few rather dramatic introductory lines, in which she relates how the songs were always with her from childhood, how they reflect the emotions and common destiny of the people in the communities in which they survive across time and place.
Vangelis on the whole makes sparing use of his instruments with Irene Papas sometimes even singing on her own or accompanied by a single melody-line.
